About Me

Lighting Designer Dana Sterling has been producing Amateur Female Jello Wrestling in lower Manhattan clubs for the past three years. The monthly event is organized by women for women, and features local ladies dressed as evil villains, super heroes, ironic stereotypes, and alter egos. By day these women are waitresses, lawyers, retail clerks, students, administrative assistants and artists, but one Sunday night a month, they transform themselves into femme fatales and battle it out one-on-one in a kiddie pool filled with Jell-o (actually, it’s not real Jell-o, it’s ‘Super Absorbent Crystals’ – the substance feels like Jell-o, but it’s 99% water, biodegradable and warm). Before the event starts, professional coaches train each wrestler in WWF-style wrestling moves including hair pulls, clotheslines, body slams, and holds. Each wrestling match is accompanied by NYC’s finest up-and-coming bands, electronic artists, and DJs, as well as experienced sports announcers/comedians.Interested in wrestling? My Interests

I'd like to meet:

More info: www.jellowrestle.com"Sterling has successfully created a space that gives women permission to forget the hassle of deflecting criticism for their bodies' inadequacies and regress to a time when they felt comfortable being ridiculous. All it took was a creative impulse and the help from a little gelatin." -New York Press"After the match all the girls felt exhausted, but empowered (like the feeling you get when you watch the 'Charlie's Angel's' movie- watching fabulous females fighting evil and kicking some badguy ass.) Really makes ya wanna be a Rockstar Fighter Chick and change the world!" – Uncoolkids.comJoin us for NYC’s wildest night of female-run sports satire. Amateur Female Jello Wrestling continues in residency at Don Hill’s on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 8:00pm. Special musical guests quirky indie-rock duo Schwervon! and infectious co-ed garage pop outfit The Shapes.
