..This is a Casey Mears fan site. For those of you who don't know who Casey is this is your lesson. Casey Mears is the number 5 kellogs/carquest driver for Hendrick Motorsports. Casey has a fairly long history in racing. Being from a racing family, his dad - Roger Mears was a Indy car driver as well as his uncle Rick Mears who is known as one of the greatest open wheel drivers of all time. Caseys uncle rick also won the Indianapolis 500 - four times!!! So it seems Casey is destined for greatness. "Racing is all Ive ever known, but there were times growing up when my parents would encourage me to try other things," Mears explains. "The racing lifestyle may seem abnormal to some people, but its normal to me. When I was younger and in school my teachers always wondered why I missed school on Fridays and Mondays. Little did they know I was off visiting a different part of the country every weekend and racing or watching my dad race." Casey has been racing since he was 4 years old. Starting out racing BMX bikes and ATVs. Then as he got older he went to go-carts, next was superlites off road. Casey would eventually get into the Indy light cars and then into the CART series. After running in one ARCA race Casey decided to head to NASCAR. He would run a full season in the Busch series in 2002. Then become a rookie in the NEXTEL Cup in 2003 for Chip Ganassi racing. Finishing 35 in points. Its all up hill from here. Casey's 2004 season earned him his first career top-five Cup Series finish at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. Casey won his first career pole at Pocono Raceway,he also captured the pole in track-record time at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Making him the first driver since 1964 to post his first two career NEXTEL Cup poles in consecutive races. In 2005 he had 3- top five finishes and nine top ten finishes. In 2006 Casey was part of the winning ganassi team at the Rolex 24hour race in Daytona,the first full time Cup driver to do so. That was the year Casey came in second at the Daytona 500 and Claimed his first NASCAR(Busch) victory at Chicagoland speedwayC!!!!! Casey Mears finished 14th in points that years. He announced that he would be leaving Chip Ganassi racing for Hendrick Motorsports for the 2007 season. This is where he will floursih next to former and defending NEXTEL cup champs - Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson. Not to mention Kyle Busch,who is a soon to be champ(even though he and Casey had some run-ins last years). This is Caseys year!!! It will take some adjustment to the new team and crew but it is worth it to race for Hendrick! Casey has won his first race on May 27,2007 at the Coca-cola 600 in Charlotte NC. Casey again has a new ride!! In 2009 Casey will join Richard Childress Racing as the driver of the 07 Jack Daniels Chevy!!! I am so happy for casey- RCR will be the perfect fit!!! Good Luck Casey!!
