In Hindi, shanta means peace and serenity.
Shantaâ„¢ is a "unifying multicultural music gathering" showcasing live performances by the Shanta Collective, founded by Kerem Ulken with the core passion of bringing people and cultures together.
Originating from Baltimore, Shantaâ„¢ was in the form of a weekly gathering that took place on Wednesday nights at Red Maple ( Lounge / Club, holding 100+ ppl ) between Aug 21, 2002 and Aug 22, 2007. Two hundred and sixtyfive consecutive parties in five years, live shows with unforgettable guest musicians and djs, friendships and love stories later, Shantaâ„¢ now is being rebuilt to hold more attendees, musicians and dance performers and set sail to new seas to inspire the world and promote unification and multi-culturalism.
Currently, depending on venue capacity and style. Shantaâ„¢ shows can be in various styles and are customizable. Shantaâ„¢ reunions, special parties with global themes, shows by Kerem Ulken and musician friends, and multi-leveled performance events featuring various artists from the Shantaâ„¢ Collective.
The main repartoire of Shanta consists of music recorded by Kerem Ulken in the last 9 years with various guest musicians from various backgrounds including world-class horn players, violinists, vocalists and street musicians from Argentina, Brazil, Turkiye, India, Spain, Israel, Poland and United States. The mood and the vibe range from ethnic triphop to dubby jazz, and from chill electronic to deep soulful house beats. The music will be released under Shanta Records upon launch of the record label.
