Barrio Chino

Barrio Chino, named for the port area in Barcelona, plays music as mestizo as the neighborhood from which it took its title. The group’s music reflects the background of its founders, brother and sister Sylvie and Gil Aniorte-Paz. Their grandparents hailed from Algeria and Tunisia and were, themselves, brought up in Sicily and Catalonia and are now based in Marseilles.The guiding musical style for Barrio Chino is flamenco rumba, and their current musical explorations follow the constantly evolving "Camino de la Rumba". Barrio Chino has collaborated with Maurice EL Medioni, Papo Pepin, Ai Ai Ai, Amina Annabi,, Oba Ilu,Conexion Salsera, Yomira John, El Sika Meya... Other inspiration comes from gypsies influences, Greek bouzouki, Sephardic mandolin music, and Arabic-Andalucian percussion. The members of the band hail from Spain, France, Sicilia, Venezuela and Algeria.Creation : The ORIENTALES, tribute to Algerian Music Hall with 3 singers and a franco-algerian orchestra with Barrio Chino and L’Orchestre à cordes de la radio Algérienne and 2007 - 2008 New project SYLVIE PAZ/Tirititran... y CABARET ELDORADOLe Mexique leur a rendu un sympathique hommage en novembre 2006 en réalisant une compilation Arabian Savour "moros y gitanos" qui est aujourd'hui un franc succés au Mexique. Ils participent et dirigent avec l'aventure andalouse "des Orientales" (spectacl efranco algérien avec les chanteuses Saleha Moudjari et Mona/hommage au music Hall) et composent aussi pour d'autres artistes et pour les BO et musiques de documentaires Groupe de scène et de fusion basé à MArseille.
