About Me

Should this section be written in the third person, in the name of professionalism? Or should it be just be honest and unpretentious...? '
Because yeah, it's just me writing this.
99.9% of my music is inspired by metaphor, by the feeling that everything is connected. Writing lyrics, for me, is like following the stitches on a baseball. No, I don't spend much of my time doing exactly that; allow me the illustration. At first glance, it's not apparent that the stitches connect at all, but as you follow them, you begin to get that feeling of "I think I've been here before". Not in a ho-hum, disenchanting sort of way, but in a way that feels like coming home - all within an idea. And if that one idea should happen to be True (that is, free of denial, pretense, or prejudiced hyperbole) it hovers at the port of eternity, waiting to take you deeper into the sphere of that which is Universally True.
If I just totally lost you, I apologize. I promise never to sacrifice our relationship for my insatiable pursuit of deeper awareness. If you're totally tracking with me, well, cool... we should hang out more. : )
I love beautiful music. I hope you're encouraged by mine.
Thanks,
matthew

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Just me as of yet... but if you're a vocalist, cellist or a percussionist who loves to make gentle music, that is definitely subject to change.
Influences:
In no particular order:

Teitur
John Ondrasik
Damien Rice
Lisa Hannigan
David Wilcox
Aqualung
Phil Keaggy
Bread
Simon and Garfunkel
Keane
Gillian Welch
Jeff Buckley
Nickel Creek
Rich Mullins
The Format
Fiona Apple
Kings of Convenience
Sarah McLachlan
Sondre Lerche
The Frames
Regina Spektor
Sufjan Stevens
Radiohead
Dan Fogelberg
Keb Mo
Schummann

... hmm, what's the point? There are too many.
And I'm sure I've left significant ones out.

I am also influenced by:
- The Christ
- Kristin
- the wind at the changing of seasons
- still not understanding my first relationship
- love, and it's many bastard alternatives
- things that make sense
- things that don't
- coffee, trail mix, chocolate, Shiner Bock
- did I mention the wind at the changing of seasons?

Sounds Like:
some strange amalgamation of...

Damien Rice
David Wilcox
Teitur
Bright Eyes
Glen Hansard...

...but (given a few folky hang-ups) mostly unique.
