I need to be constantly stimulated by new ideas, concepts, landscapes and ways of thinking or I grow grumpy and bored. Because of this, my interests and passions form an unruly whole encompassing everything from pre-fab modernist architecture to art history, human sexuality, and Japanese pop. I can discuss the iconography of a Hieronymous Bosch painting as easily as the merits of South Park, and am equally as comfortable at Grandma's house as at a play party.
I'm a proud Jew, but an even prouder atheist. I love to collect recipes, but hate to cook. I'm a conscientious eater, but not conscientious enough to eschew a juicy steak. I love close friendships, but am horrible at keeping in touch. I loathe mainstream culture, but am often bored by hipsters.
My favorite indulgences are reading, road tripping, international travel, thrift and antique shopping, and entertaining. I collect mid-century furniture, clothes & kitsch and have recently decided to put aside money to start collecting art by new and emerging lowbrow painters. My favorite possessions include a 1940s booklet published by Kellogs lauding the importance of regularity and bran, a 1950s bbq cookbook praising asbestos mitts, and our "Cabinet of Ethnicity" -- our collection of 1950s decorative ethnic figurines and ephemera encompassing politically incorrect American Indian, Hillbilly, Asian, and African collectibles.
