About Me

Mud and Eddie bonded early, over a shared love of filthy cider and filthy Seattle bands. Though they jammed together many times, resulting in plenty of promising material, the project never really gained any serious momentum until the addition of Marky T on drums a few years down the line. All of a sudden it started to sound like a band, and a promising one at that. The music thus far was quirky and dynamic, but in need of some indefinable ‘x’. In 2003, the threesome met a highly talented musician named Allan Ferguson, then playing bass for another local band. Impressed by his talents, and slightly confused by his banter, they coerced him into trying out as their singer/lyricist/melody-writer. Everything clicked into place at the first practice. Allan’s inventive, off-kilter pop sensibilities and bizarre lyrics were precisely the ‘x’ that had been missing. The band decided on the name ‘Refuse Boy’, after one of Eddie’s typically unpleasant anecdotes, and proceeded to write and gig up a storm across Edinburgh and Scotland.

Their debut EP was self-recorded and released through Edinburgh label SLAP! Records in 2005, to a warm reception. The band’s live shows were also starting to make them plenty of friends among the local rock luminaries, and they were soon sharing stages and trading compliments with some of their favourite bands.

Songs kept coming thick and fast, replete with a greater complexity afforded by the ever growing cohesiveness of the band, but never eschewing their pop sensibilities. So, in 2006, the band decided to document their expanding ambitions by recording their debut album, ‘Fear Of Beards’.

Fear of Beards now available to buy online for £5.00 (incl p&p).
