About Me

Hi Everybody and thanks for coming to my page. I hope there is something of interest for you here. I work with reclaimed and pre used timber making furniture in my workshop. My clothes are second hand, my furniture is second hand, my dogs are second hand. Hell-even the wife is pre-loved. I make Industrial style art from old iron and machinery. I'm into positive movements and care for the environment and our fellow man. I work as a snake handler for Wildcare and NARG which rescues and rehabilitates injured and orphaned native animals. I've had a strange but interesting life with a lot of fun along the way and I've carted a guitar around with me for the best part of it. If I'm not playing, I'm grooving to my tunes in my head that play constantly like a radio. I had a very musical childhood which involved singing in a choir and listening to my Dad singing bass vocals. I was heavily influenced by both my sisters - Michelle who introduced me to the Beatles, Rod Stewart & The Faces, T-Rex and a whole lot of 1970s skinhead music and Sue who introduced me to the raunchier side of music...Hendrix...musn't forget Hendrix. As a teenager I found Queen and loved the intricacies of their songs. This all inspired me to form a band at school (with a few memorable friends) called Plazma. One too many threats of, "Right, that's it, I'm leaving the group!" had my bluff called and I was replaced quite out of the blue... Big mistake Mr Clapton... ha ha. I then played lead guitar in various 70s hard rock outfits and grew hair to my waist. At a later stage I met an old school friend called Martin Noakes who was singing in a pub with his band. They needed a bass singer, so I got the job and was thrown in at the deep end with a performance the next night. We lasted a few years and the bug for live performing was caught..... Eventually stupidity hit me and I hooked up with someone and had a baby and cut off my long locks and now I'd do anything to get them back..especially on the top!. That's when the music stopped. 20 years on, thanks to a multitude of inspirations, I have rediscovered my love of music. I have decided to retrace my steps, resurrect a few old songs and do a whole load of new ones. And this is where you guys come in. The beginning of a new chapter. Making up for lost time.

Jam Jar Braidwood - 4th Jan 09

Influences: I’ve been influenced by everything from the choir I sung in as a kid, to the people I’ve played with over the years. These include Ed (Trev) Holden for his genius on the guitar and the effortlessness to which his fingers breeze over the most intricate melodies. Dave Vigar for his brilliance in his ability to play ’off the seat of his pants’ when under pressure and the way he filled out a chord by picking individual notes. Martin Noakes, for his amazing song writing ability, fantastic voice and passion for his music. Phil Thornton for keeping it quiet for so long as to how bloody successful he was and for getting me wildly pissed on peach schnapps one time when we jammed in his studio. Dom Lawrence for being a brilliant bassist, a passionate musician and a good friend..(where are you now Dom?). Monwell T. Levi for his beautiful voice, wonderful guitar playing, and helping me find the key to my songwriting ’door’ - thanks Monwell. And....The Beatles, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Free, Todd Rundgren, Level 42, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Yes, Rory Gallagher, Bobby Mc Ferrin. More recently Coldplay, Xavier Rudd, Josh Pyke, Old Man River, Jeff Buckley...and oddly Ross Noble (comedian) in his own special way.Basically anyone who can make you cry with the use of a beautiful chord, a lick of a lick, or a stunning voice.
Sounds Like: A soft acoustic folky influence. Softly plucked chords and lot’s of harmonies. Just sounds like JAKE ANNETTS.
