Have a great New-Year !
The past two years have been great for Adrian Adioetomo. In 2007 he released his debut album “Delta Indonesiaâ€, an album in which he pays due to the music that inspired the pursuit in his career as a musician.
After years of struggling in different styles and grabbing any opportunity to play and present his music, the approval of expat-café audiences on his slide delta-blues performances assured him of the bold-move in producing his own record. Released under the moniker ‘MySeeds Records’ and distributed through Sinjitos Studios, the self-styled delta-blues sound of “Delta Indonesia†caused quite a ruckus in Indonesia’s music-listeners and critics.
Though ratings were varied, most (if not all) of the review rants on the originality of the music right at the time where the Indonesian music industry was oversaturated by sappy homogenized ear-candy representing short-sighted views on adultery and puppy-love. ‘Delta’ managed to cut right through the clichés of most Indonesian music at the time by attempting to dish-out soulful and raw expressions of delta-blues spirit. All done with just slide guitars and vocals that evoke the history and feelings of how it was for the bluesmen back in the 1930’s. The production that was kept to a bare minimal and touches of vinyl scratches helped seal the record’s vintage atmosphere.
One thing that stands out of the reviews, as Denny Sakrie, a renowned critic stated, was Adrian’s ability to bring all the raw-soul and spirit of the blues’ into an Indonesian context. Sure enough, this becomes Adrian’s core essence not just in the album, but in his performances as well. Since the release of ‘Delta’, Adrian’s performance has attracted the attentions of concert-goers and live music aficionados, ushering him to international events like Java Jazz and Jakarta BluesFest, among others. Adrian’s performances usually leave their audiences awestruck with an aftertaste of aggressive honesty in mind-boggling slide-work and groovy-tunes.
Pictures and footage of his performances sprout sporadically in print and electronic media, spanning the 2 years of ’07 and ’08. Close to the end of the year, it seems like Adrian has no intention of stopping. He already has plans that he hopes to execute in the first dawn of 2009. It’s no bad-excuse that we should expect to hope the same too.
May God’s Blessing be with you all year round.
