Grew up in Bexleyheath in Kent. Despite this, music was an important part of life since a teenager. Eventually became singer and rhythm guitarist with a London based band called The Violet Years in the nineties. Unable to escape the Camden scene the band fell by the wayside.
Despite being bandless had the need to keep writing and performing so carried on, solo. Moved to Sheffield in 2000.
Since being solo managed to secure some interesting support slots including ones with Billy Bragg, Mark Eitzel, David Gray, Glenn Tilbrook, The Pernice Brothers, Peter Bruntnell and Mark Mulcahy.
Favourite musicians who have been influential:
The Beatles, R.E.M., U2, The Smiths, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young, Billy Bragg, The Stone Roses, Squeeze, and The Waterboys.
Music uses simple, melodic, guitar based songs. Some songs describe specific events, some ask big questions and others, not so big questions. Usually based on the themes of love, hope (or lack of), drinking, and direction (or lack of).
Put together a home studio and took far too long to work out how to plug it in. Has now actually started using it and hopefully a few results should be forthcoming sometime soonish.
Damian is currently enjoying playing guitar and doing backing vocals in a new band made up old men, The Janskys. He is starting to gig more regularly both solo and with the band, rediscovering a passion for music.
