Ben Edwardsen

Music has always been a source of joy for Ben Edwardsen. Whether singing in front of a crowd or singing in front of a mirror, Ben has always found happiness in his music. Ben's training began at age 7, under the piano tutelage of Barbara Noval. Although excelling in classical piano, it was clear that Ben's main talent lay in his voice. For the rest of his childhood, Ben would continue to study piano, but also received a scholarship through his high school that allowed him to study voice at the Eastman School of Music, under Patricia Alexander. During these years Ben took a great shine to musical theater. He found the simplicity and richness of the American Standard mesmirizing. After graduating from high school, Ben decided to pursue his vocal training from a different standpoint. He found that classical voice and musical theater were too confining and that he had an increasing desire to improvise. That was the beginning of Ben's interest in jazz. His jazz education began at Berklee: College of Music, where he studied for 4 semesters. While Berklee had amazing facilities and faculty, Ben found that he was looking to study voice from a more instrumental standpoint, which was not the focus at Berklee. Ben then transferred to SUNY Purchase to study under the exquisite tutelage of Dena DeRose.
