About Me

J.MAC is a singer/songwriter/guitarist steeped in the roots of rock n'roll.
Born into a musical family in Dublin, Ireland and weaned on the likes of Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry and The Rolling Stones, he began playing guitar at the age of 11. Having mastered the basics, his world changed three years later when he observed two teenagers in his school “trading licks”. From that moment on he set about becoming a lead guitarist and although always in possession of a ‘naturally powerful and gutsy voice' it wasn't until years later that he felt the confidence to take centre stage.
Having formed numerous bands in Dublin, all the while learning the craft of songwriting, he moved to New York City in 1991 where he relentlessly pursued his musical career. There he formed several bands including Naked Grape with Sony publishing artist Dina Regine and toured with acts as diverse as Electra records glam-rockers, Smashed Gladys and indie-folk singer, Melissa Sheehan. In 1996 he recorded on his sister Eleanor McEvoy's Columbia released album, “What's following me”, and embarked on several U.S. and European tours with Eleanor and her band. Since then he has recorded an E.P. of his own original songs and went on to form Irish R & B/ Blues/funk band, B & THE HONEYBOYS with singer Aileen Mythen (aka B), London born Shane Atlas on drums and bass player Paddy Joyce from Dublin with whom he recorded the eponymously titled album, which has received great critical acclaim.
K.J. has played guitar with many artists including Melissa Sheehan, Naked Grape, Dina Regine, Eleanor McEvoy, Luan Parle, Bagatelle, Mickey Harte, The Big Muddy, The Rose Ponies, The Gospel Project and of course his own band, 'B & The Honeyboys'. He has played on many albums as a session guitarist (too many to mention). He also teaches guitar to beginners and advanced in styles from country and blues to contemporary rock and indie.

As a songwriter K.J. has written songs for both his own band and other well known artists inclduding 'Make mine a small one' with his sister Eleanor McEvoy, which went on to garner much radio play across the national airwaves. He wrote 'Overcome' on Dublin's 'The Gospel Project', which K.J. is a member of and who have recently released their album 'On The Outside'. K.J. also released an EP of his own original songs (roots/country rock) but he is probably best known for his songwriting with Irish R&B/Blues/Funk band, 'B & The Honeyboys'. He continues to write songs for other artists aswell as his own band.
