MALCOLM OF LEEDS

About Me

Music and "Love" Lover! Started messin wit my grandparents Gramophone, probably before I could walk properly. My old man was in soul/funk band and had/has a massive record collection from Johnny Ace through to Earth Wind and Fire etc. (and still won't pass it down!!!), so...Malcolm McLaren F***ed me (and a loada my friends etc.)up when we first saw "Buffalo Girls" on TV, with this Hip-Hop ting, way back.Which led to "Ghetto Blasters/Beatbox/Breakin (Iwas rubbish!!! to lanky, so started DJin instead)/Graffiti Art/Nike(sometimes Rikki)Cagoules(?????)/Started DJin wit Bozzy when I was around 12. We had no idea, one plastic record player and another teak style "stereo", with the lever to store'n drop the next records!!!Got playin wit a sound system, playin Hip-Hop and "Soul" (also had to carry a loada speaker boxes around for the privilige.Knocked off school to play on local pirate station WYBC (We're Young Black and Cultured) and then I heard this "Jack Your Body" tune happened again totally f***ed me up. "Jack the Groove", "Do it Properly" "White Knight Jack the House"... ..."bwoy!!!"By this time "Def Jam", "Cool Chillin" etc. were providing P.E. Big Daddy Kane etc. Warehouse and "Downbeat" in Leeds was F***in Sh*t up then, Big up "Nightmares on Wax, LFO'S DJ Martin, Mark Ital (Ital rockers, now Irration Steppas)& Millie DJ Wiz, BTI, MC "Live la Borss"(RHETORICAL SONS!!!!)Beatmaster E ("Gloria...wah' a do??), BIFF, Pedro'n Frost!!, Malcolm X, Mr.LEE, etc., my first real life inspirations.DJ, HYPIN, DRILLIN, MC BATTLES VS Manchester, everywhere from leeds to nottingham (Rock City) etc. From my Amiga in my bedroom, DJ Martin got me started makin trax for real, we used to have The Roundhay Road "Jams" back in 87-88, where a load of producers used to showcase their dublates; mostly the "Leeds sound" of house at the time, which was basically very bottom-heavy houseand then... ......the "Rave scene" happened: Hardcore (Big up Birmingham for them early DnB tunes), Kool FM in London (Brockie'n Det)etc. and the whole house thing totally kicked off. By this time myself ("DJ Emelle" at the time), "DJ Beks" and "Dougie Bug" formed "Cromatone Express" and hooked up with John McClennan, and worked with Rob Aitken (DustIIDust) up in Falkirk (Haggis'n Wild Turkey supper!!), which ended up with us putting our first record out with the infamous Dave Beer's "Back II Basics" label "X-Men's Groove".In comes Strictly Rythm'n Nervous: NY House, M.A.W. etc. Like all the London DJs at the time, we were playin em all super fast, leading into UK Garage (Big up Matt Jam Lamont, who gave us our chance on the London scene and put out our track on Matt's "Afrocat" label.Cafe de Paris, Gass Club etc. dat Sunday Night scene was the sexiest ever!!!Then all the 2-step sh*t came in wit all dat "you say Iya" "we say Napa" (sorry guys like MJ Cole etc. we all know there was/is nuff quality there still)and in my eyes the scene lost it's soul. After that, had my two Boys: Fabiano and Reuben (now 7&5) and sat at home twiddlin the knobs, makin some kinda garage, soulful house, DnB hybrid sh*t, my friend Dimambro takes me up West London and they're playin similar stuff: Broken Beats they called it, Bugz, Co-op etc. So kinda found a likkle inspiration. Stop by from time to time, I'll rotate couple dub plates every now and then. Let me know what you think??ps. any vocalists, singers, rappers, poets, musicians/artists who wanna hook up......HOLA!!!!PEACEANDLOVE!!!

New Mix: Malcolm of Leeds Indian Summer

So, Summer never really materialised in the UK this year. As I have no power over the atmospheres above and therefore cannot bring actual sunshine into anyones life; The best I could do was to dust of...
