- John Richards, KEXP's Associate Program Director
"An album you shouldn't miss." - TheBlackandWhiteMag.com (Canadian music zine)
"Across the River" shows Shane getting dreamy and seasoned with patterns of warm acoustic guitar being picked behind his striking and resonant lyrical call. He's a singer, through and through. - Trent Moorman, The Stranger
"[Shane Tutmarc's] voice is strained, lending an urgency to his songs, which range from unironic country steps to finger-picked folk ramblers to piano-driven devotional songs."
- Brian J. Barr, Seattle Weekly
"I feel as though I’m present at the birth of rock and roll."
- Sound on the Sound.com Live Review
"HEY LAZARUS!" (second album):
"In the beginning, rock 'n' roll fused country, boogie-woogie and the blues. This up-tempo alloy of country, rhythm and blues is where Tutmarc reigns. It could be called modern roots... On top of everything, though, is Tutmarc's spirited voice, which is at home snarling or crooning, wherever the spirit takes him." - Shawn Telford, Seattle PI
"It’s like a fresh breath of air to hear them play... They pull sounds from many different music genres to keep it fresh and progressive... With their recent release "Hey Lazarus!", Shane Tutmarc & The Traveling Mercies are a band to keep your eye on!" - Barflies.net (SoCal Music Zine)
"If you didn't think you were a fan of the blues, just check out Hey Lazarus!, the latest disc from these Seattlites, and think again!"
- taken from the 2008 International Pop Overthrow program
"Hey Lazarus! is in high rotation on my own iPod right now." - Chris Estey, Three Imaginary Girls
