Xue Wen Gao grew up in the People's Republic of China.
After finishing his studies at the National Conservatory of Shanghai, he was invited to Belgium to further his studies in 1980. In Brussels, he studied at the Royal Music Conservatory in Brussels with E. Baert and J. Vandendoorn, and achieved his Higher Diplomas for cello and for chamber music with the highest distinction. In this same institution he then became a professor of both the cello and chamber music.
At the international "Maria Canals" competition in Barcelona, he received an honorary diploma.
In Bourg-Madame (in France), at the international competition for cello, his playing once again earned him First Prize.
He was awarded the "Alex de Vries" prize for chamber music in Belgium.
With the Philharmonic Orchestra of Hong Kong and also in the "Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen", Xue Wen Gao featured as the Principal Cello.
He was a member of the jury at the international music competition in Caltasinetta (Sicily), and he frequently performs internationally both as a soloist and as a chamber musician.
He has been involved in many and varied CD-, radio- and television recordings.
