A common nickname of his is Jepha. His other co-members of the band include vocalist Bert McCracken, guitarist Quinn Allman, and drummer Dan Whitesides. Howard began playing bass when his childhood friend Korby Connell played guitar. Jeph figured that if Korby played guitar, he must pick up bass. Prior to Bert joining The Used, Jeph was the singer, but he prefers to play bass.
Background Howard is an only child, and in one time in his life, was a boyscout. Before The Used became signed to Reprise Records, he worked as a cook and baker. At the start of the band, Howard had dreadlocks that producer, John Feldmann, liked to say looked almost like "poo". He currently owns a long haired dachshund - also known as a "weiner" dog. It's name is Zelda after one of his favorite Nintendo video games, "The Legend of Zelda".
Interests Howard says he listens to all kinds of music - he likes everything from "noise and super screamy metal to hip hop." He believes that this is partly because his father would play records for him growing up. Howard also says he enjoys Japan/Japanese culture and horror films. He says he drinks six to eight cups of green tea daily as that is his favorite kind of tea. Jeph is said to believe in UFO's. Howard is a vegan and appreciates PETA and is featured on their "Save #99" DVD. He is known to drink alcohol in moderation, and thus he travels on The Used's "Party Bus" periodically.
Tattoos and Piercings He has a tattoo of an angel on the right side of his neck and a devil tattooed on the left side of his neck with the word luck tattooed between them on the back of his neck. He says he believes it's the only way to get through both of them. Howard also has fifteen piercings, including a penis piercing - a Prince Albert, two bottom lip piercings and his tongue.

Robert 'Bert' McCracken (born February 25, 1982), is the lead singer of the punk rock/emo band, The Used.Bert was born in Orem, Utah, USA and raised in a Mormon family during his youth. He was inspired by Michael Jackson to become a singer at a young age. He also attended High School with bandmember Quinn Allman, before dropping out. Before joining The Used, he played the trumpet in a local band in his hometown. Wanting to seek new musical options, he auditioned for a band in his hometown who needed a singer.After his audition, Quinn Allman, Jeph Howard and Branden Steineckert were so blown away, that they asked him to join. He was so involved, he hitchhiked to band practice. Soon, Bert moved out of his house and lived with Quinn and his parents for awhile, before their band became a huge success.
Facts ♥The youngest member of The Used. ♥Claims Michael Jackson as his first and greatest musical influence. ♥Other singers that have influenced him are, Robert Smith, Madonna, Robert Plant, Refused|Dennis Lyxzén and Walter Schreifels. ♥Bert's parents kicked him out of the house because he rebelled against his Mormon upbringing. ♥Was a classmate with Quinn at high school and both had the same choir class, before they dropped out. ♥By age 17 he was addicted to crystal meth. However, he was able to overcome it with his bandmates' support. Addiction continued to follow him. According to an interview, he used to drink up to 2 bottles of Jack Daniels daily. Constant touring and alcoholism didn't mix well and while touring for The Used's self titled album, he collapsed. After consulting several doctors he was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, a severe inflammation of the pancreas caused by autodigestion of pancreatic tissue by its own enzymes. Quinn Allman (born January 18, 1982 in Orem, Utah) is the guitarist in the American Rock band The Used. Allman grew up in Orem, Utah, in an anti-Mormon family. At a young age, Quinn started playing in bands. His first band was a band called "Hey Santos!". At age 15, he became a member of The Used, influenced by bands such as Face to Face, Goldfinger, Thursday, Kenna, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, and New Transit Direction. He is openly bisexual. He is also a vegetarian and supports PETA.Quinn passed the time with petty theft and panhandling. He has been described by bandmates as "the nutty kid who eats his own boogers and doesn't wash his hands ever". All bandmates share the thought that he is a very comical individual. Singer Bert McCracken of The Used describes him as a "truly spiritual and warm" individual.In late 2003, Quinn was arrested outside of his own tour bus for opposing an officer who was forcing fans off of the property.Alongside The Used, Quinn has a side project entitled "Evaline", which played on the 2006 Warped Tour.
Extras Once worked at a golf course mowing lawns. Quinn and Bert both shared a room at Quinn's parent's house when Bert had no place to live.
Branden Steineckert (born April 21, 1978), is the drummer for the punk rock band Rancid. He was previously in The Used.Branden was born in Pocatello, Idaho, USA and was raised in a Mormon family which moved more than twenty times during his youth. He has claimed to have never tried tobacco, alcohol, or any other recreational drug, all of which are barred by the Mormon church. When Branden was 11 years old, his father Richard Brinkerhoff committed suicide, after which he picked up skateboarding as a way to release himself from his problems.At the age of 16, Branden decided to learn how to play the drums because his late father had played drums at around his age. He helped found The Used, who would go on to achieve success, earning two gold albums.On September 12, 2006, drummer Steineckert was announced as no longer part of The Used, due to a wish from the band to "move forward without Branden as our drummer". The new drummer has been chosen, Dan Whitesides. Some theories for Branden's departure from the band include his recent work producing other bands, and his engagement to The Used merch girl, Spike. The band's third album is due to come out in the spring of 2007. Before that, they will be releasing a CD/DVD titled "Berth" on Febuary 6th, 2007.On November 3rd, 2006, it was announced that Branden would play drums for Rancid until the end of their tour. Replacing drummer of 15 years, Brett Reed. On the tour Rancid has been saying he will be their new drummer. It is unclear if he will appear on new album that is due for release in the spring of 2007

Dan Whitesides is the official new drummer for the American Rock band The Used. He is replacing Branden Steineckert, who departed earlier in 2006 and is now playing with Rancid. Whitesides began playing drums at the age of 14. He has quoted himself, "I play a little guitar, but that's just because my whole family plays guitar, and I picked it up from being around them. [I didn't play it] in any bands or anything like that though. Mainly just drums." It is said that he comes from a musical family.
