About Me
Born in London to Jamaican parents, this young man would soon show creative and artistic tendancies. Since the age of six, while attending primary school, Mikey found he had a great passion for performing and music. His first instrument was a drum kit bought by his father. By the time he was in high school he had begun to teach himself basic chords on a piano which was in the school assembley hall, with his close friend Wayne Laing a.k.a Screechie Skrawler. His mother, knowing of his artistic quality, had hoped he would attend art college, but this youngster had other things in mind. So, in the early 80's,he started out as an MC on on the south London sound system circuit initially with Spectra Stereomix alongside Top Cat, Juglar Banton, Flexi Lion and Screechie Skrawler. After being declared winner of a local MC competition, he was first approached by Maxi Priest to consider beginning a recording career. It was in 1987 that he became a member of the future World Cup winning Saxon Studio Sound working with D Rowe, Musclehead, Trevor Sax, Papa Levi, Daddy Colonel, Tippa Irie, Sandy, Rusty, Roger Robin, Neville Morrison and B Candy. During the Saxon era (now singing) he began learning how to program and build his own original backing tracks, the first being "Stop Do Dat" on the Saxon Hit Factory label. In the winter of '87, Mikey had his first experience of touring abroad in Paris, France. The following summer of '88 saw the Saxon crew's first tour of Jamaica along with the south London soul crew, Mistri. Mikey was performing alongside not only Levi, Tippa, Colonel, Rusty and the late Miss Irie but also Professor Frisky, Johnny P, Tuffest, Papa San, Bunny General, Lady G, Thriller U, Little John, Don Angelo, Hugh Griffiths and the at that time little known Lady Saw, to mention a few.In late 1990 he then hooked up with Joe G and the Viking Discomix crew taking his producing skills to another level. Again he was working with his sparring partner Top Cat also Ambassador, Mike Anthony and Tad Hunter. It was on Joe G's Records that he produced his first number one, "Walk Away From Love" by Mike Anthony, which held the top spot in the UK reggae charts for nine weeks. Not long after he produced tracks featuring Sugar Minott, Azania, Tuffa, Top Cat, Tenor Fly, Carlene Clark, Ninja Ford and many more. He also produced "Sensitivity" for Vivian Jones and the lovers rock classic "The First" featuring Vivian Jones and the late great Deborah Glasgow.During the mid 90's he took time away from recording although he never stopped being creative. For him the time had come to explore other musical genres as he was called on to do remixes for various artistes, beginning with brit-pop's MC Kinky (for Sony UK), Jhovan (an up-coming R&B group), and others. In 2000 he went to Jamaica where he made links with King Jammys and other established producers who inspired him to return as strong as ever. In 2003 on his next visit to Jamaica he worked with Fatman at the Free Willy recording studio in Kingston to create some of his best work yet. Now back in the UK, he is more than ready to deliver what the world has been waiting for.
