Kontiki Suite limped into existence in early 2006 following late night drunken discussions on the genius of Brian Wilson. Built on a healthy catalogue of songs recently penned by Ben Singh, the initial core of the band was soon in place with Marcus Dodds and Craig Bright. After producing the band’s early demos, Jonny Singh was soon lured into the fold as the fourth unsuspecting victim.
Throughout the following year, the band exhausted enough 5th and 6th members to form their own Lambchop style collective, and self-released a popular 3-track demo as well as contributing a one-off song to an iTunes released compilation by Manchester label Fat Northerner. The local success of the demo culminated in the band kicking off the live phase of their career with a handful of debut shows to over 1,000 people.
The band share a collective love of melody, harmony, psychedelia and country, borne out of an appreciation of the B-troika brigade of bands from the mid-1960s to today; The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Burrito Brothers, Big Star, Bob Dylan, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Beachwood Sparks, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Blazin’ Squad have had an undeniable influence on the sound of the band.
Following the recruitment of Stephen Hoolickin and Mario Renucci in early 2008, the band returned to the live stage in June with a sold out hometown show to over 300 people. With over 30 songs now written and laid down in demo form, the band is now gigging throughout the UK and in a position to record their debut album…
