Seattle, WA’s Closed Casket play straight up pissed off danceable hardcore with huge breakdowns, sing-alongs, and no gimmicks. The original idea for Closed Casket significantly evolved since it’s inception in 2000. The concept was born as a project that focused on pain, frustration, and the joy one experiences between birth and death. Lyrics were initially written with heavy emphasis on dark emotional themes but have come to include more political and social concepts as the band has matured. In the fall of 2004 drummer Joe Axler and singer Chris LaPointe decided to start a band. The original idea from 2000 was revived, although with a slightly different direction: a band comprised of friends having fun, while playing pissed off music. Today’s lineup is completed by guitarist’s Mike Torres & Travis Wideman and bassist Carey Fegel.
The members of Closed Casket come from very diverse backgrounds within the underground music scene. They came together for the love of the music and have a passion for keeping hardcore alive, diverse, pissed off, and thriving. Members of Closed Casket have been playing and touring in hardcore and punk bands for well over a decade. Closed Casket contains former or current members of Himsa, Skarp, To See You Broken, Book of Black Earth & Spitting Teeth. Drawing from their varied backgrounds influences include: Madball, Cro-Mags, Ringworm, Black Flag, Sick of it All, Integrity and the Refused to name a few. These influences blend together to create a unique and refreshing sound.
Closed Casket has recently completed their 2005 demo, which features 5 songs, and plan on releasing a full length in fall of 2006. They envision a busy tour schedule in their future with a west coast tour in spring of 2006, followed by a full US and possibly European tour by 2007.
