The Right Stuff : Dead Or Alive
Dead or Alive, was founded in 1980 in Liverpool by Pete Burns, who was encouraged by local music promoters to gather a band together based on his outrageous appearance alone. It was only after rehearsing in 1978 with some friends that Burns realized he really did have a powerful singing voice.
However today pete burns is more well known for his plastic surgery rather than his musical talent, his story is a well known one though. Pete tells his story as it in his words in his autobiography ‘Freak Unique’.
Since dead or alive formed in 1980 they have had 10 albums all reaching number one in Japan except ‘unbreakable which came in at no. 2.
You spin me round is the signature song from dead or alive, been released many times all over the world and been number one.
Pete burns was recently brought back into the spotlight in the UK by appearing on reality TV show ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ this rocketed Pete back into the limelight in the UK. His appearance was one we will never forget with the arrest of his ‘gorilla’ coat and telling what he thought on fellow housemates in the house. When Pete emerged from the house his signature record ‘You Spin Me Round’ was released and got to no. 5 in the UK Singles chart!
Pete burns recently featured in the documentary ‘Pete Burns Unspun’ that aired on LIVING TV at 21:00 on Thursday 30th November 2006. The show followed Pete around after he was bailed out of prison by an ‘obsessive fan’ and had to live with him, in the documentary pete tells us of his plastic surgery nightmare and the sale of his home.
