This is a song I wrote back in late 2006 about, a then largely unknown, Barack Obama. I am a white, middle-class Irishman who knows little about the politics in my own country never mind politics in America. But the outcome of the next American presidential race will affect all of us. This page is not trying to be controversial. Please do not message me any political statements or arguments. I have just been enamoured by the little I have read about Barack and I feel its time for a change. It got me thinking about the Civil Rights movement and those special people who paved the way for America to even consider voting for a black president. I wonder how proud they would be.
A Change Is In Place
A Regal Protest
Your colour don't command no chivalry
Emancipate Triumphantly
A cheeky kid who thought he'd never seeYou change your life if you want to
Forward we run, backwards we fall
And I could run if you want me
Heed what they said, a change is in placeJubilant Magnanimity
Sitting down to stand up for your rights
Many Lives Killed
You've cashed your cheque, you'll dream sweet dreams tonightYou change your life if you want to
Forward we run, backwards we fall
And I could run if you want me
Heed what they said, a change is in placeAnd they would never stand by you
If standing by was all that they could do
And they were beaten and abused
But see them smile, they've paved the way for youYou change your life if you want to
Forward we run, backwards we fall
And I could run if you want me
Heed what they said, a change is in place
