'Rock n Roll with Fast Bits' Review
Alright, No Credit has come up trumps with this high-energy seven-track EP which is characterised by a roof-raising speaker-bursting production job that ensures that the sound is crisp and crunchy throughout.
No Credit's brand of melodic hard-edged street punk reminds you, at times of much missed Melbourne punk legends, All City Sharps. No Credit's secret weapon is their lead guitarist, as he's capable of the time of economical, yet catchy, solos that rocket each track on 'Rock n Roll with Fast Bits' into the stratosphere. Although there is a metallic tinge to the guitar work, the welcome absence of fret-tickling self-indulgence means that the solos never distract from the tight and punchy heart of each song. The sizzling playing adds a melodic richness and depth to each track and expertly compliment the powerhouse contributions from the rest of this fine band.
Musically, No Credit shift seamlessly from a cranium-crushing wall-of-sound to quieter moments of stripped back magic while incorporating unexpected time-changes. One of many highlights, Regards to Everyone, opens in semi-acoustic mode before expoloding into the type of singalong, arm-in-arm chorus normally associated with the Dopkick Murphys.
On the strength of this short and snappy EP, No Credit demonstrates that they are indeed skillfull exponents of 'rock n roll with fast bits!'

'Rock n Roll with Fast Bits' Review
No Credit could earn a reputation as the revitalists of the irreverant punk rock tradition that bridges the divide between the metel-edged, fist-pumping hardcore bands permeating the scene at present and the pop-driven indie kids who seem to dominate the trendier pubs and clubs of our fair city.
Playing with their tounges firmly lodged within their cheeks, No Credit playfully belt out tunes with a crustiness that evokes Bastard Squad, an adolescent homour that reminds one of NOFX but with an acute sense of DIY melody cut from the American pop punk cloth of Lagwagon, Jimmy Eat Word and even (the not so American) Millencolin in their earlier years.
No Credit have an acute sense of musicianship, adding all the elements that make punk great but other, less astute bands usually forget about; gang vocals punching in all the right places, top notch musicianship from both the rhythm and percussion sections, a rasping vocalist that can keep within the margins while being cheekily self-refferential.
The EP has only 5 tracks with 2 demos - 3 which are balls to the wall rock n' roll (with fast bits), one which slows it down and even one acoustic ballad (in which one of the band members decries for not being fast enough...and immediately kicks into gear) all of which keeps the record varied. In most cases, punk base revil in their being derivative, but No Credit - to their credit - avoid most of the cliched trappings of the genre. Its got a uniquely Australian vibe and punk loyalists will find a lot to like here.

'Rock n Roll with Fast Bits' Review
WHO? No Credit are a four piece gritty punk rock band hailing out of Victoria. They've shared stages with the likes of Lagwagon, No Use For A Name and Strung Out and released this debut EP featuring 5 tracks and 2 demos in January this year.
WHAT? The guitars wail, the vocals crunch, the drums hold the beat. No Credit play that 90's punk sound we've heard a million times before, but in this day and age sadly don't hear enough of. While tonnes of bands go for that overly polished, and more often than not boring sound, it's refreshing to hear more locals having a bash at a nice raw punk sound. Plenty of moments to pump the fist along to, choruses to chant your way through. Most evident in the opener 'Boys We're On', a track that would no doubt be a staple of their live show. 'Fuck This Place' would be the track that opens up the pit and livens up the night. 'Regards To Everyone' is a cool little acoustic track to close up the main tracks, then some bonus demos are thrown in for good measure.
WHY? Good quality local music, plain and simple, we don't have enough of it going around in this genre at the moment, so check them out, and keep and eye out for them playing around the traps, from the sounds of them in the studio, you'd be under the impression that a fun live show would be on the cards.
WHEN & WHERE? 'Rock 'N Roll With Fast bits was released in January 2009 and is available now. Check the indie stores around Melbourne, or buy a copy online direct from the band.
SUMMARY Nice work for a debut release from these Victorians. Always busy on the live circuit, and with that you can only expect them to grow more and more with each release. Sounds like a bunch of guys having a good time playing tunes in a genre they've grown up with. No direct rip-offs, just solid tunes worthy of a listen.
