Myspace Backgrounds GERMAN BARERRA (Latin Groove) Born in Bogota, Colombia,1975, German inherited his musical instincts from his grandparents and uncle, both musicians from Colombia… he received his first acoustic guitar at the age of 12. With this, he discovered his own feel for music and what then developed into a forever evolving passion and curiosity for instrumentals.A music career shone ahead at German´s 16 years of age, participating in Bogota Rock Festivals as a member of group named Morfonia. During 1995, Morfonia recorded their first album, touring and playing to croweds as an opening act for various Colombian artists belonging to record labels Sony and Sonolux. After this episode, German decided to further his musical experience by travelling to Barcelona, Spain in 1998 where he was taught bass by professionals Gary Willys,Carles Benavent,Pep Perez, Chris Higgins, Mario Rossy, amongst others, and came to participate in international Jazz and Flamenco seminars.By 2000, German completed his studies at Barcelona´s established Taller de Musics, achieving in the areas of Modern Jazz, harmonies and instrumentals, as a bass player. This gave German in 2004 a Scholarship by the International Association School of Jazz (IASJ) to attend Berklee College in Boston, USA and the opportunity of master classes with Gary Burton, Tigre Okoshi, Halcrook, which led to featuring 3 songs on IASJ´s 12TH Anniversary compilation produced by fellow David Liedman.2006 took German back to Europe, collaborating with label Free Sound New Talent´s group Astronautus, and organising concerts in Barcelona for Andres Cepada Univision and Sony Music for Alberto Plaza.Working with different artists and styles, German felt it was time to fulfill his dream to record and produce his own album as an audio engineer student at Internationally recognised SAE Institute (Barcelona).German´s first project is now finalised. His input as lead singer, bass player and producer, forms German Barrera (Latin Groove), a blend of Funky and latinoamerican´s finest sounds with a touch of Jazz- a musical gift for world music.
