About Me
Composer / Producer / Musician / Engineer / Eco-Beardy
Welcome to my smashing page of musical skulduggery.
Now, my original idea for this page was for uploading bits of my non-album/artist work, .ie. the stuff written for television, film or other media use. I was then going to set up another page for my production work, but that idea was rubbish and I'm putting everything on this one page. So this will be one seriously rambling and unstructured discourse about er, me and some music stuff.
Yes, I'm a record producer, sound engineer, composer and part of the team behind The Chairworks; the biggest and best complex of recording studios in the north of England.
I've known what all those knobs do for a good number of years, which means that I've made shed-loads of records with shed-loads of artists, from unsigned new bands to Grammy winners, most of the big labels, all the major uk broadcasters and most of the top television production companies. My own band have sold something approaching One Million albums worldwide, scoring a top ten US Billboard chart position along the way.
Either, I'm (A) quite good at this, or (B) rubbish but am too well known to stop. I like to tell myself it's the former...I'm continually on the lookout for really good unsigned artists/bands; there's a lot of 'nearly there' talent out there and zillions of bands here on my space. Some are good, others not so good and you have to wade through for something you like. Nevertheless, it's great for musicians and listeners; direct contact y' know...? Click on "3 Man Bench" in my top friends for a listen to some of my most recent unsigned production work, then watch that space...
Now about this business of music for the telly...
This kind of writing is usually associated with lonely blokes sitting in darkened rooms for days on end. Frankly, this seemed to be a frightful business and so it appeared an altogether more agreeable notion, to work as part of a team of composers and write TOGETHER.
Does this make bettter music? I have no idea.
Is this more fun? Hell yes.
My recent credits include:
Shameless, Oz and James Big Wine Adventure/Drink To Britain, Sugar Rush, Ramsey's F-Word, Rude Tube, The X-tra Factor, The Russell Brand Show, Richard and Judy, The One Show, GMTV, The Friday Night Project, Bremner Bird and Fortune, Hollyoaks, Ross Kemp on Gangs, How To Look Good Naked, Dirty Cows, Bo Selecta, Peep Show, Scrapheap Challenge, Faking it, Bricking it, Grand Designs, Teachers, Tony Robinson's Crime and Punishment, John Lydon's Megabugs, Bruce Dickinson's Flying Heavy Metal, Ten Years Younger, My Shocking Story, various Paramount Comedy programmes and previews, Britain's Next Top Model, America's Next Top Model, No Angels, Scrapheap Challenge, Location Location Location, 3 Fat Brides 1 Thin Dress, 5th Gear, The Gadget Show, Wife Swap, Ray Mears Wild Food, Ray Mears Bushcraft, Who Rules The Roost, Shipwrecked, Masterchef, The Milkshake Show, The Blair Years, Living TV trailers for Lipstick Jungle, Girls of the Playboy Mansion, Al Murray's Road To Britain, something or other with Jimmy Carr, oh that'll do; there's about another 300 programmes, but you get the picture and my memory is lousy.
And why so much comedy? I dunno, I must write funny stuff and yes, the BBC really did use "I Like To Tango" on The Blair Years for most of the shots featuring Tony Blair and Gordon Brown together. Visit www.audionetworkplc.com for the full lowdown on how this all works!
Thanks to Audio Network and the various production companies for the use of the images - and for giving me work!
And no, for the last time,
I was never in Hawkwind.
