Gael Sli

About Me

Responding to a burgeoning international fan base and the sale of over 10,000 copies of their first album, ‘The Irish Century’, which was released in Italy, Gael SlÃŒ released their second studio album “the Sum of all parts” to their discerning fanbase and to rave press and media reviews in late 2006. According to the Irish Times, this album charted new waters…. “Siobhan Warfield fronts Gael SlÃŒ with a feisty confidence…her undoubted charisma, Cian Loughnan’s superb fiddle, Dave Keegan’s subtle percussion and Robin Hurt’s driving guitar make this a band that strikes a note all of their own.”The American Press recently stated, "[Gael Sli] played traditional ballads, jigs, and reels with their own youthful zeal and you can see why they are fast becoming one of the more popular touring Irish bands in the U.S.”The band’s popularity has been phenomenal and they are constantly featured on Celtic TV and many American podcasts (Celtic Music News) as well as their songs being played on American radio networks. Following a showcase at the Midem Festival in Cannes in late 2006, the band was engaged by Fontana to record some new material for the Czechoslovakian market with a predominantly “live” sound on 10 exclusive tracks.Since their last appearance at Folkest in Italy in July 2005, Gael SlÃŒ have been busy touring across Europe and the USA featuring at many leading festivals; Eurofolk Festival (Ingelheim), Balve Hohle, St. Patrick’s EuroDisney Irish Festival (Paris), Folk Im Scholosshof Festival, Salzgitter Irish Festival, The Festival of World Cultures (Ireland), Chicago Irish Festival, St. Louis Irish Festival and the Indianapolis Irish festival, where they garnered 17,000 votes as the Best live Act of the Festival. Stiff competition in the form of Gaelic Storm (Titanic) failed to win the popular vote (www.nuvo.net). Due to their demanding touring schedules in Europe and America, Gael SlÃŒ rarely commit to more than a few concerts in Ireland every year, but their increasing profile at home was recently illustrated by their exclusive appearance at the Marlay House Arts Council concert series and the “Best of the West” appearance at the Magnetic CafÈ, Doolin along with Dervish, Grada, Niamh Parsons et al.In 2008, Gael SlÃŒ still remain one of the leading lights on the Irish folk music circuit. Each of the individual members of Gael Sli are also pursuing solo musical projects which range from the rock to folk genre which has enhanced the band’s material and musical collaborations, bringing a new perspective, energy and zest. Currently the band are researching old Irish ballad books and transcripts in order to collate some new material for a third studio album which is scheduled for a recording date in the Autumn of 2008.Gael Sli has also signed an exclusive agreement with iTunes for the “The Sum of all Parts” and it will be available for download from August 2008. Known for their enthusiastic and faithful fans as well as dynamic live concerts, Gael SlÃŒ have now appear for three nights only at Folkest - a great opportunity to check out what the world is talking about in Irish music!
