About Me
Dear Eastmountainsouth fans and friends,For those of you who don't already know me, my name is Kat Bode, formerly Kat Maslich, the female half of Eastmountainsouth.I want to begin by saying thank you for your loyal support these past few years with eastmountainsouth. We made our dreams come true and toured with extraordinary people like Lucinda Williams, Tracy Chapman, Joan Baez and Nelly Furtado and other brilliant artists that were on the same path as us. Through all the tough miles touring on the road, during the hard times and the great times, it has been the support of my fans that has carried me.In July of 2004 I sang solo at the Gram Parson's Tribute concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl and the Universal Ampitheatre in LA. I was honored to perform along with such top notch musicians, many who I consider my greatest inspirations. It was an all star cast including Keith Richards, Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, Jim Lauderdale, and many others. It was an especially great experience because I was able to watch my friend Polly Parsons face light up by having her Father honored by such great musicians. Well, that and singing backup with Keith Richards!!In September 2004, we wrapped up touring for our first record by playing at the Hollywood Bowl, opening up for Lyle Lovett and Shelby Lynne. It was an amazing experience and a great way to say thanks to our fans and friends at home for their love. I was eight months pregnant at the time and the baby was flippin around my belly when I was singing! it was such an incredible feeling, almost surreal at times. In November 2004 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Lula Blue Bode. My husband Darryl has been by my side and I am so grateful to have him in my life.We had incredible times as EMS and I was certainly hoping to record our sophomore album but Pete had really made the decision to go on his own a couple of weeks before the show. While I was saddened of the news I knew there was no changing his mind. He had wanted to explore his solo possibilities for a while. I was already 9 months pregnant and at the time my focus was on the birth of my daughter. We are both deeply appreciative of the 5 years we were together. I could not talk him into going on the second journey of EMS if he did not want to go. I feel that I made the best of it and I had to move on as well.It has been 9 months since Lula came into our lives and I am really enjoying being a mother and so grateful of my new life. Darryl and my daughter have given me new strength for my song writing process. I am recording my new solo record in the early fall, using some fantastic musicians, and look forward to being on tour again soon. I feel truly blessed to have so many people writing to me already and supporting what I love to do most in the whole wide world. I am so thankful for you ALL because without you I would not exist. Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this time and keep visiting my website for updates on the progress of my new record. www.katbode.com I will be posting more goodies, including music, pictures, and a journal. I'll see you out on the road and on a stage near you soon.MIa Frances came into our world on March 24th of this year 2008... We are happy as one big foursome and looking forward to reviving my music again.Love and music!
