About Me

Modulate are an AV collective who came together through a shared interest in experimental electronic music and all things abstract . Connecting from a varied background of music, sound installation, graphic design, filmmaking , sonic visualization, curating, and generative software programing, current members include Bobby Bird, (music/sound design/programing) Scylla Magda (sonic-visualist), Mark Bunegar (sound/visual/programing), Mark Harris (sound/visual/programing), and Joseph Potts (film/visual)The collective formed in 2001, and began exploring an abstract spatial realm of AV and multiple speaker installation In 2006 we released ‘Modulate 5.1 ‘ a DVD of collaborative pieces for home cinema viewing/listening (available from www.modulate.org.uk where you can also view excerpts). In 2009 we have developed an entirely new live show, which we recently showcased at CoCArt Music festival ,Poland, at the Center of Contemporary Arts, in Torun. This was very well received, and we are now looking to give more live AV performances at selected festivals worldwide Please get in touch if you are interested in booking us, either via this space, or emailAside from creating and performing our own work, Modulate also work together as a production team, and have produced a number of high end events and projects. These have included a series of 'Sonic Culture Salons', including performances / talks by Francisco Lopez (Spain), Skif++ (Netherlands/U.S.A), Frank Bretschneider (DL), Monolake (DL), Vladislav Delay (Finland), Fluxion (Greece), Jan Jelinek / Karl Kliema (DL), and Solu (Finland). In 2008 we also hosted a three month residency with electronic artist / musician Damian Frey from New Zealand.in 2009 we are producing "Birmingham Sound Matter', a project directed by Francisco Lopez, involving seven UK sound artists/musicians, plus Lopez, which will result in a performance in July and a CD release on Audiobulb. For more info & pics visit our wordpress blog as listed above.Prior to Modulate's formation, Bobby Bird of Higher Intelligence Agency, together with curator Scylla Magda, were the instigators and organisers of legendary experimental music club Oscillate Sound System, which throughout the 90's brought many electronic acts to play in Birmingham, including Orbital, Autechre, Bernd Friedmann, Biosphere, Ultramarine, Sun Electric, Mira Calix, Plaid, Locust, Freeform, Spacetime Continuum, Deep Space Network, and of course Oscillate's own in-house improvisers the H.I.A.Modulate love to modulate spaces, sonically & visually. One of our favorite yearly summer-time projects has been modulating a festival woodland space, with projections , multiple speaker installations including, last year, 'The Sonic Circle' a harmonic resonating frequency space in amongst the trees.  We are here to : make a connection with those with whom there may be some connection!
