Symposia

About Me

Symposia are a new-music ensemble, based in Glasgow (and founded in 2002 by Fiona Ferguson and Oliver Searle), created from a pool of some of Scotlands best young, professional musicians. We are only interested in performing new music, the majority of which has been specifically written for the group. Symposia perform music in a variety of concert situations acoustic and mixed media, with electronics as well as providing music (both live and pre-recorded) for use in theatre; Symposia have also established development projects for contemporary music, such as their Associate Composer post which allows composers to work with the group as they are writing their music. We are now looking for composers who want to apply for this opportunity in 2008 - if you write music (of any style) and want to work with some instrumentalists on something new please contact us for further details. We are also open to working with theatre, filmmakers, visual artists and dance companies who would like to explore the use of live music. We also have an education programme taking our enthusiasm for composition across Scotland.
