There is no such thing as bad music – only bad listening (i.e. a bad philosophical system which cannot deal with certain sound events) Everything makes a sound – learn to listen harder Music is one of the few artistic endeavors where the differently-abled are still actively discriminated against with concepts such as ‘talent’, ‘technique’, ‘tone-deafness’ and ‘Virtuosity’ which are non-logical and outdated. Western musical theory is tainted by imperialistic traditions and represents a totalitarian order based on a philosophy at odds with the emerging scientific and spiritual view of the world. Music is simply structured sound, a musician simply someone who has the ability to structure sound into a meaningful personal experience and that music is not the unassailable fortress of the instrumentalists, where an artist is defined by how he utilizes and overcomes his situation. In the words of Wayne Shorter: ‘Your Humanity is Your Instrument’. Music is best organized under anarcho-improvisation lines. The structure of a performance should emerge from the bottom up without recourse to a controlling frontman. Thus everyone is free to express themselves to the best of their ability. Alternative performance spaces and distribution techniques should be sought. Thus cutting out the middlemen who by monopolizing the market they then decide on what is heard, and this on what constitutes ‘good’ music. The band system is uneconomical, hierarchical, and exclusory. A better approach would be a community one, aiming to incorporate musicians from all ages, sexes, backgrounds and experience. Could be seen as a ‘meta’-band. A focus on the music making PROCESS rather than the PRODUCT. If you don’t have a clue what all this is about but think you would like to get involved anyway – don’t ask permission – it’s anarchy after all – just do it. If you want to draw some scores the we can put them up in the pics section. Feel free to get in touch with comments (especially bad), abuse, whatever. Remember just reading this makes you a member, so jump in… let’s make some fucking noise.
