I am here for Networking

About Me

First of all, yes, it IS me. Really. For real. I'm not some fake, pretending to be Torey Hayden. I'm Torey Hayden. And see if you can figure out the 84-years-old thing all by yourself.

..THE SUNFLOWER FOREST is a novel and it was released in the UK at the beginning of December 2008. It will not be available in the US. If US fans would like to read it, please order a book through Amazon UK

I'm grateful to all my new fans here on MySpace and I'm thoroughly enjoying being here. If you want to know more about my books, my background or me, please visit my proper website at: www.torey-hayden.com for lots more information.

While I'm very much enjoying this opportunity to meet fans of my books, please understand that for legal reasons I can't give any advice or help with personal problems, and that I genuinely don't have time to do an honest job of reading your manuscript, critiquing your writing or answering your homework questions, so please don't ask.
Please do not copy stuff from this space, including from the blog. It is copyrighted material and is not posted under a Creative Commons license.

And by the way, if you try to post advertising of any kind on this page, I'll delete you from my Friends list immediately. So please don't.
For anybody out there who is still confused, SILENT BOY is the British re-titling of MURPHY'S BOY. It's the exact same book. My British publisher, HarperCollins UK, felt too many people in Britain wouldn't get the reference to Murphy's Law, which is called Sod's Law in the UK, so they chose to change the title.
And continued bad news if you are waiting for another nonfiction book. I do have one more story I'd like to tell, but I am still caught up in a legal battle over the consent and until that is resolved, I simply can't write it.

However, I am definitely still writing and involved in several different projects. I've just completed a children's picture book with Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. I'm currently writing a textbook with Dr. Michael Marlowe of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, USA. This book is aimed at university-level teacher training. There is currently no release date scheduled (because I keep not getting around to finishing it!) I am also teaming up with Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche to do a book aimed mainly at teens and young adults in which we talk about ways of dealing with difficult problems.

Why I wrote OVERHEARD IN A DREAM

When I was little, I had a very elaborate fantasy world or 'paracosm', as Marjorie Taylor calls it.  It began when I was between four and six.  The odd thing is, I can remember its comin...

The Role of Imaginary Companions

Before we get started with the Torgon excerpts, I thought it might be helpful to talk a little first about what inspired the book and Torgon because I am aware many people have found it an unusua...

What happens next

It's been a while since I've had a chance to write here.  Life has been just that little tiny bit hectic this year; but it seems to be settling down a bit; so I hope to finally get around to doin...

On being a full-time writer

I am often asked about what it's like to be a full-time writer.  The last statistics I saw on the matter stated that only one writer in 5000 registered with the Author's Guild makes more than $10...

On dulce de leche

I am often asked about dulce de leche.  Dulce de leche is an incredibly well-kept secret of Mediterrean and Latin and South American countries.  It is a confectionery made from sweetened co...

On having your book made into a movie

I am often asked what happens when your book gets made into a movie.  Two of my books have received this treatment.  Not great big blockbuster movies, mind you.  Just TV movies.  M...

On sheep

People often ask me about sheep.  Yes, that's right, sheep.  This is because I am owner of a flock of 20 Black Welsh Mountain and 30 cross-bred white Welsh Mountain sheep.  I am their s...

On becoming a published author

I'm often asked about how I went about getting ONE CHILD published, once I'd written it. As I mentioned in an earlier blog, I spent my formative years writing one very long 'story' chronicling the lo...

On working in depressing circumstances without becoming depressed

I am often asked:  didn't I get discouraged working so hard for so little return in special education?  So many of the children required huge inputs of time and in many instances, when we pa...
