Swing Unlimited Big Band

About Me

A new band for the South....

Swing Unlimited Big Band was formed in late 2001 by various musicians including David Wilkinson and James Rawlinson, both wanted to play upbeat interesting big band jazz but felt the opportunities to do so in the area were somewhat limited.
The most important feature of the band then and now is the commitment of likeminded musicians coming together for their own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of others. To bring our music to all of the community the cost to come and hear us play had to be as low as possible. Raising money for charities and other good causes is another function of the band.

Success breeds rapid growth...

Since then, the Swing Unlimited Big Band has grown more rapidly than we could have imagined. We now perform at least once a month for our regular audience as well as performing for charities, weddings and other private events. The Band has now 20+ members including professional and amateur musicians.

Other Bands form...

As SUBB moved from strength to strength, there was a need within the community to form bands underneath the umbrella of SUBB - these bands 3 in total are the real foundation of the community and are open to all (with a small audition) who play a Big Band instrument (sorry no Euphoniums).

Location...
The band is based in Bournemouth which is on the South Coast of the UK.
SUBB can also provide smaller ensembles from a Jazz Duo http://www.diminished7th.com to a full 20 piece Big Band.Music...

In short we play anything (within reason) that is suitable for Big Band. Music ranges from the Classic Glen Miller of the 40s through to modern day styles, including the retro style of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy as well as Rock classics such as 'Wonderwall' arranged for Big Band.
