Phil 'n' the Blanks was a quintessential new wave band from Chicago in the 1980s. They recorded two 45rpm singles, three highly praised albums, and their quirky colorful videos were staples in the early days of MTV.
Their "clever, intelligent, musically advanced" songs (D.I.Y.) have "a refreshing sense of humor" (Billboard). From 1980 to 1985 the band staged a "highly energetic" (Boston Rock) live show in clubs and concerts from the midwest to the east coast. Combining new wave, punk, pop, folk and world music influences, Phil 'n' the Blanks were always "expanding musical horizons" (Sun-Times), and visually were "video kings - heavy hitters" (ABC-TV).
Members of the group: Phil Bimstein (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards), Blanche Le Blanc (now Blanche Blacke ) (lead vocals), Eric Kister (lead guitar), Bill Hyland (bass) and Roman Zabicki (drums, vocals). For more pix and reviews of the group click here .
Phil 'n' the Blanks recorded more than thirty-five songs. The four above were transfered from the original vinyl records.
