Professional trumpet player and educator Simon Nixon is based in Leeds, UK. Growing up in Doncaster Simon received the best training any musician could receive with the Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra before moving to Leeds to study at Leeds College Of Music where he was chosen to represent the college in a European Youth Jazz Orchestra made up of students from Europe’s best music colleges and conservatoires.
After leaving college Simon became a regular member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra where he continued to learn his trade.
Since turning professional in 2000 Simon has played with some of the UK’s leading big bands and theatre tours including Joan Rivers Farewell Tour, Rat Pack, Andy Prior, Peter Grant, Glen Miller Tribute Orchestra, Squadranaires, Boogie Night Fever and The Blues Brothers to name just a few.
Currently playing with Keith Allen’s ‘Grow Up’ Simon can be found in the recording studio when not on the road. Credits to his name include New York club scene favorites ‘Capri’, Trinidad and Tobago’s 2006 world cup song and The Carousels. Another of Simon’s projects, the B3 Horns, have been featured on a number of tracks from the eagerly awaited new album (Sputnik Sweetheart) from Dave Formula (formally of bands Magazine, Visage and the Angel Brothers) and R&B sensation Laura fowles’ latest album ‘ My Time’
As an educator Simon has been involved in running workshops alongside some of the countries finest Jazz educators and musicians. These have included running improvisation and ensemble workshops with Dennis Rollins and the National Children’s Orchestra.
