BIOGRAPHY KARIMA
Karima Lemghari was born and raised in Amsterdam were she was captivated by music at an early age. Started with ballet in a youth theatre, she realised singing was something she needed to do.
From the age of 16, singing got a more and more more serious character. Gracia and Karima travelled thru the country by expressing their passion. They worked with everyone in the hip-hop scene and visited as much they could much hip-hop and R&B events.
In 1994, Susan and Edsilia were added, so the group Dignity became a fact. Their first single talk to me took over the dutch and German charts. At that time the three girls signed a deal at Virgin records Benelux, in 1998 their debut album “Dignity” was released. For this album they were nominated for an TMF award and Dignity won an Edison award in 1999 in the category R&B and dance They had a lot of success in the Netherlands and Germany and were called the first successful R&B act in Holland
In spite of their huge success the group decided to stop. Karima used this opportunity to go solo, cause she refused to stop with her life's biggest passion. Released an album track “Tomorrow “ on the Hip hop/R&B compilation album “Social Life”, In April 2002 Karima hooked up with Ali B. The dutch song `Waar gaat dit heen” was released in 2003, and the entire turnover of this song went to Amnesty international. In 2003, Karima signed a deal at the label SPEC MUSIC.
From 2004 up to 2006 Karima was seen in the musical the Lion King van Joop of de Ende. She was part of the singing ensemble, as the first soprano and was the understudy of the principal roles “Shenzi” and “Sarabi”
In the meantime Karima has worked hard on her own repertoire. Beside that we know Karima, for having a big voice with an extremely huge range,Karima also proves to be extremely talented as a songwriter. At this moment Karima works on a Dutch album. Her music is best defined as mature R&B with once in a while a rough edge, this ‘cause her love for Hip Hop never dies.
With her voice and whipping rhythms she takes her public in her own world. Accompanied by a fantastic band Karima can be called one of Dutch best R&B acts.
