The Retirement Plan is, for the meantime anyway, Bristol-based singer-songwriter Benjamin Tansey, a recent graduate from Dartington College of Arts with a BA in Music Composition with Community Practices. With this hard-earned qualification, Ben can look forward to a long and happy career spent waiting tables and pulling pints for people who chose to study something that gave them a real job. No matter how he pays the bills though, Ben's first love is and always has been music and with university over, his aim now is to promote his music as much as possible, with the view to making it a full time career.
Other passions include a love of film and literature, and an interest in writing and drawing. Ben enjoys long summer days, pina coladas and getting caught in the rain, and has an acute dislike of self-glorification and talking about himself in the third person and suspects I am not very good at it anyway.

All the songs on here are part of the 'album' I submitted for my degree. They were written and recorded in the Spring of 2008 and is the culmination of three years [hard] work. I entitled this 'album' These Are The Sounds Of Days That Are Passed, a phrase stolen from the inlay to Eels' Daisies Of The Galexy. It pretty much sums up how I feel about these songs; they all document, in some way, events or feelings I have experienced at some time or other. Being the self-obsessed person I am, they're all autobiographical in some way.
Mercury Burns Blues & Office Supplies Inc.
In 2005 Benjamin "Walter P. Johnson" Tansey and Joe "Mercury Burns" Abel gave themselves middle names in quotation marks. As a result, they
began to play blues music, almost uncontrollably, incontinently. They performed this blues at some sort of event. The details are fuzzy, but they seem to remember there being a piano. Unfortunately, with the music came a lifestyle, and after an abortive attempt to make Ben blind in one eye to increase their credibility the booze overcame them and they never performed again. Until three years later, when these videos were taken.
