About Me

Hi myspacers...
I started out in New York, have been a long-time member of The Mommyheads, and now live in Toronto. North America & Europe tour this fall. Trees, It's Not Up To Us, and The Sound Of Love are from my new album, "The Dawn Chorus" by Michael Holt & The Kids, available at michaelholtmusic.com and cdbaby.com/cd/mholt2 . Nino Wrote A Tune and Erotic Dream Of The Harnessed Swimmer are from my first album, "Pajama Garden". Spiders is from the Mommyheads album "Flying Suit". June and All The Michaels In The World are from my last album, "Windows". Visit michaelholtmusic.com for more info and free downloads, and myspace.com/michaelholtclassical for my classical side.

PLEASE ACCOMPANY FRIEND REQUESTS WITH A PERSONAL MESSAGE!!!!!
And now check out the pages of my top friends! They are all artists with whom I feel a deep musical or personal connection...
THE MOMMYHEADS is the band I've played with since 1990. We took a ten year break in 1998 and are now back together for a new album and tour.
DAVID CELIA is a great songwriter, guitar player, and recording artist, a father of three, and a very spiritual guy. He compliments my music like none other.
DON KERR is a dear, dear friend and drummer, at whose studios The Rooster and The Gas Station I have done much of my Toronto recording. My Canadian guardian angel.
PETER MURRAY is a song writer, bass player, and drummer, who has released a virtually perfect and totally beautiful pop album.
TANYA DAVIS is my new favourite singer/songwriter. Her elegantly simple and from the heart lyrics speak with the directness to which I aspire myself, and make me cry every time.
BOB WISEMAN from Toronto has been a songrwiting idol since I met him on tour with The Mommyheads in 1991. His albums In Her Dream and Lake Michigan Soda are classics in my world, at the level of Desire by Dylan or Life's A Riot by Billy Bragg. Like Bragg he moves effortlessly between the scathingly political and the heart-wrenchingly personal. My first exposure to the refreshing vitality of Canadian subculture.
LAURA BARRETT's hauntingly lovely music, which she plays on the Kalimba (African thumb piano) reminds me of some of my favourite classical pieces, and would be beautiful on any instrument. Her new album is the most creative and musical pop album I've heard in the last year.
WALEED ABDULHAMID is a world-class multi-instrumentalist and virtuoso singer from Sudan, with whom I've had the privilege of playing on a few occasions here in Toronto.
OREN BLOEDOW is one of my oldest musical friends and collaborators, from NYC where we both grew up. He was an integral force in my early band Pajama Garden and plays beautifully all over the Pajama Garden record. His solo albums contain some of my favorite music ever. Listen to "Hawking" on his myspace page all the way to the end and you won't be let down.
101 CRUSTACEANS from New York are my one of my favorite bands in the States. We've been big mutual fans since my Fang Records days in NYC in 1989-92. Ed's lyrics are seeringly articulate critiques of inner and outer snivilization. His music has inspired a whole generation of New Yorkers. You'll either hate it, or love it.
THE WOODEN STARS are my favorite band in Canada. They've been making influencial, groundbreaking music since the early 90's when I met them on the road with The Mommyheads. I sing on their album "People Are Different".
JOHN VANDERSLICE and I are mutual fans from my San Francisco years with The Mommyheads. I play on his album "The Dream Is Over". I don't know anyone more brilliant and creative with sonic painting in the recording studio.
SNAILHOUSE is the solo project of Mike Feuerstack of The Wooden Stars, a series of beautiful, creative albums. I sing on the second one, "The Radio Dances".
CHRIS RAEL is one of my closest friends in New York. He singlehandedly built the scene I came up in, the Fang Records music community. His own music combines Indian and western pop styles with political lyrics and a deep, uplifting spirit.
MATT SCHIKELE was in Beekeeper and is one of the most musically original songwriters I know.
MARCEL AUCOIN makes unique music which is like jazz but isn't. It has "heads and solos" but it comes from it's own totally original harmonic and melodic planet.
SONYA HUNTER is a friend from San Francisco whose songs and voice I LOVE.
BEN GUNNING from Montreal writes some of the most unique and sophisticated music I've ever been involved with. His lyrics are poetic, scathing indictments of contemporary society and corporate life. Used to be in The Local Rabbits.
MIKE EVIN is Canada's entertaining new Piano Man! His songs are musically delicious and lyrically adorable.
TANYA PHILIPOVICH is one of my favourite singer songwriters in Toronto. Her powerful voice and wonderfully unique lyrics get me every time.
