About Me

The Save the Glaciers Association, or SGA, was founded in February 2007. It is an organization for people to come together to stop global warming and protect the Earth. Global warming is a very real issue that we must all try to fight. It is mostly the resut of human activities. It is caused by atmospheric greenhouse gases produced by humans in their everyday lives. Carbon dioxide is one main greenhouse gas. This greenhouse gas is emitted whenever fossil fuels are being burned. So each time you drive or ride in a car, fly on an airplane, or use anything that plugs into the wall, you are contributing to global warming by burning fossil fuels.
The SGA's purpose is to inform everyone we can about global warming in the hopes that more people will take action. Although stopping global warming for good is seemingly impossible, we can at least reduce it if we all come together to help. You can minimize your daily impact by making just a few changes. Below is a list of some very simple things you can do to help reduce the effects of global warming.
1) Walk or ride a bike instead of a car whenever possible
2) Use less hot water
3) Turn off electronics when you're not using them
4) Recycle at home and buy recycled products
5) Carpool whenever you can
6) Buy fuel efficient cars
7) Use both sides of a piece of paper

We can already see effects of global warming on the Earth. Glaciers are melting, species are dying out, plants and animals are being forced out of their homes, and the number of severe storms and droughts is increasing rapidly. These are just a few of things being caused by global warming.

The number of severe hurricanes has doubled in the past 30 years.
The flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland has more than doubled in the past decade.
279 or more species of plants and animals have responded to global warming, moving closer to the poles.

If global warming continues at this rate, these are just a few of the consequences we can expect.

The Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050.
Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet.
Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years (to 300,000 people a year).

One major way to help this cause is to share this information with as many people as you can. More people need to become aware of the dramatic effects global warming is having on our planet. The SGA is just one group trying to prevent global warming, and if you are reading this then consider making your own organization. Spread the word to whoever you can, however you can. The sooner we end global warming, the better.
