So what do you get when you take a small town kid gifted in music and obsessed with heavy metal and bring him of age during the techno revolution? You get JHelix. You get a musician who loves a good dance beat, driving rhythm, and a million electronic sounds blending into one; but one who also loves strong harmonies, powerful vocals, and raw emotions. No Lies , both his first LP and JHelix’s emergence onto the scene, lays the foundation for a long musical career.
JHelix sounds like so many different artists that the comparisons are endless. He’s been compared to Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Depeche Mode, Marilyn Manson, Gary Numan and Orgy, as far as mainstream acts are concerned. The niche acts are too numerous to list. The sound incorporates elements of trance, electro, industrial, goth, rock, progressive house and alternative into a mix that respects the hook as much as the melody, while never losing site of the beat. The songs will have you singing along, nodding your head, and experiencing the lyrics. There are “No Lies†in this album. The stories are real, and the feelings are bare. But the accolades and praise go farther than mere bio babble.
JHelix song “The One†was placed as the third track on the nationally distributed “Buzzlighter 2:The Machines That Feed Us†compilation (Shut Eye Records). Here, he has made it to the play lists of over 65 college and satellite radio stations throughout the US and Canada. This breakout debut inspired several inquiries from program directors trying to get a handle on this new delicacy. Becka Lucas of CultureCartel.com was driven to declare that: “While there are several very good songs and promising bands to be heard on this CD, the most startling of all is a single man from Atlanta. JHelix, or Jeffrey D. Gatto if you want to be literal, is an artist.†Upon the independent release of No Lies, JHelix launched his own college radio campaign yielding similar results, getting air play in Canada, Alaska and many states in mainland USA. JHelix earned praise in several 2007 college radio review blogs. One in particular cited “This guy could be top 40 in no timeâ€.
Using the positive vibes from his college radio success, online sales, and high rankings/awards on Garageband.com, JHelix wasted no time and began work on his second LP almost immediately. This second album promises to blur even more genre lines, and push even more boundaries of musical fusion.
Capitalizing on the opportunity to use his gifts in production and as a vocalist, JHelix partnered with friend and veteran DJ/Remixer, Fher Rivera to form the group Audio Isolation in late 2007. The pair took to making music almost immediately, and within three months were doing a debut live streaming performance on NYC’s own DownshiftRadio.com. Clips of this performance can be found on Youtube.com. JHelix currently resides in Atlanta, GA, where he is working hard on both of his projects and keeping his musical dreams alive.
