What you are listening to is the first known recording of Bimbo Walker when he was 16 years old. “Bimbo†Walker - solo guitar, lead vocal. Dan Bates - rhythm guitar, backing vocals. Greg Youngman – bass, drums, backing vocals, engineer. Recorded 1969.
“Just before I left Fresno (1973?), I remember going to a large party up in the foothills with a friend of mine. I ran into Bimbo there.
We played a few songs together. Even though I hadn't seen him for a couple of years, I was still blown away by his natural musical instinct. He seemed scattered though. He needed no lessons... he needed a manager. I told him I was moving to LA to chase my dreams and that I hoped he would somehow have a place in my future.
Around 1978 I was putting together a new band and thought of Bimbo. I don't remember who I called to get his number, but I did
talk to him. I told him of this female singer I had been working with
and that he would be a great addition. I told him the group would be
fantastic. All I can remember about his response is that he didn't seem to understand what I wanted. I told him it was an opportunity to do something with himself. He said he'd think about it and call me back. I told him I
needed an answer soon because work was lined up the next month. I never heard from him. The next time I heard anything about Bimbo was when I was told that he had died.†- 2000 Greg Youngman
