About Me
"Pokemon" is a shortening of "Pocket Monsters," a video game originally played on the Nintendo Gameboy Color. It is a turn-based Role Playing Game in which the player is a preteen rookie pokemon trainer with dreams to become the greatest trainer in the world. The players train Pokemon to battle each other in arenas for a title of championship.
The first Pokemon games to come out were Red and Blue versions (Red and Green in Japan). The different versions only differentiated which pokemon could be found in the wild for capture, not plot or gameplay. These games were set in the Kanto region, which is a real area of Japan. These were quickly followed by Yellow version, which was a special Pikachu edition, and differed slightly from the other games in game events and available wild pokemon. After that, Gold and Silver versions came out, which took place 3 years after the original 3 and starred a new character as the PC, 100 new pokemon, and a new region of the map, doubling the size of the game. They started out in Johto, with Kanto becoming available later in the game. These were followed by Crystal version, which was mostly the same except that the player could choose the gender of the PC, and some game events were changed. Next, Ruby and Sapphire came out, complete with even more pokemon, followed by Emerald version. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen soon followed, being remakes of the original Red and Green versions. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, which came out April 22nd, 2007, Are set in yet another region called Sinnoh, which resembles the northmost island of Japan, Hokkaido. Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal were all made for Game Boy Color, Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen are all for Game Boy Advance, and Pokemon Pearl and Diamond are for the Nintendo DS.Pokemon has been a respected video game by some teachers and parents, who say that the game teaches good morals and challenges the player to use strategy to win. The villains of the stories, Team Rocket and Team Galactic, are criticized for casting aside pokemon just for being weak, or mistreating them. Also, the pokemon battles around which the game is based rely on not only power of attacks, but strategic defenses and "types" which often determine the outcome of a battle.
