About Me

The Spinning Jennys were first formed in 2004 at The University of Salford by Lauren Denman and Caz Latham. Since then they have been pouring out their own particular brand of vocal harmony-laden, blues-tinged, heavy, intense indie rock.
Caz hails from Lancaster and started playing in bands when she was about 14, the first of which being Diverted Traffic. If you're from Lancaster you may just remember them from the "early noughties", as they say. It was all adolescent energy and not a lot of technique. Having said that, the songs were there. Stupid Little Somethings lives on in The Spinning Jennys! Check out Caz's fascinating musical history (=P) in more depth and more songs from The Spinning Jennys' repertoire here.
Lauren is from Accrington and moseyed her way over to Salford Uni in 2004 after finishing a music A level, amongst some other boring crap. Because Caz and Lauren are both theoretically retarded in many ways, they ended up on the music foundation course together for a year instead of the PMR course they both wanted (that came the year after), but hey...can't complain! Caz and Lauren have been joined at the hip both in the musical sense and the friendship sense ever since.
Since then the members that make up the rest of the band have changed and guitarists, bassists and drummers have come and gone, but the current line-up of Caz, Lauren, Laurie and Dean came about in December 2007, with Clare joining a month or two later.
Laurie , Dean and Clare are on the same course as Caz and Lauren, but the year below. They were drawn together with the help of a fabulous tutor and a bit of old-fashioned luck. Laurie is from Buxton and Dean is from Burnleh (ha). So if anyone wants to give us any gigs in those areas as well as Manchester, Salford, Lancaster or Blackburn, go right ahead! =P
-- WE ARE LOOKING FOR GIGS ANYONE WHO NEEDS A SUPPORT ACT, BANDS FOR THEIR BATTLE OR FOR THEIR GIG NIGHT OR TO PLAY AT THEIR PUB OR WHATEVER, WE WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU GOT IN TOUCH WITH US!
We're currently in a period of great excitement and creativity, what with the new line-up and all that, and we just wanna get out there and carry on playing before we explode. And that would be a right mess. =)

Sounds Like: Quite a few people have compared us to Manic Street Preachers. Others have commented on our "great harmonies". We've also been described as "swoonsome Americana"...but we think you should have a listen and decide for yourselves. =)
You can get some idea from the tracks up here but for the full Spinning Jennys experience you should come and see us live, for sure. =D
