Influences: The year was 1991 and New York was on fire. From hip-hop to R&B, the big apple dominated the music scene, delivering raw, unparalleled talent from the boroughs to the mainstream. While infamous industry folk like Sean “P Diddy” Combs were in the forefront of developing legendary acts such as Mary J. Blige , a somewhat hidden genius lay in the cut quietly drumming out some of the craziest sounds heard round the world. Introduced to the music business through Diddy himself, this multifaceted Mt. Vernon native went on to write, arrange, mix, engineer and produce for nearly two decades. Working on countless songs and remixes alongside the Bad Boy founder, Dofat created hit tracks for everyone from Heavy D and Jodeci to Tina Turner, Biggie and Da Band. Highly respected for his command of the recording studio and for his creative vision, Dofat is regularly called upon by the industry’s leading icons including Andre Harrell, Diddy and Heavy D to consult on artist development and musical direction. Having produced and remixed close to one hundred songs and numerous Top Ten hits, he is without a doubt a powerhouse in his own right. And today, just when the NY hip-hop scene hits an all time low, he’s here to save music all over – but this time rocking the mic. Welcome to the Dofat experience.

“When you listen to it, it doesn’t sound like a new album,” says Dofat of his debut, rightfully titled The Dofat Experience, Nothing Less. “It’s more like someone’s third or fourth album because I know so much about composing an LP together.”
Slated for a fall release on Dofat’s CHINATOWN MUSIC (established ’06), the album is already garnering radio play in markets as diverse as NY and Arkansas with the first single, “Just Me & You”. A mesh of laid back, smooth material and tracks that you can bounce to in the clubs or enjoy with your partner, The Dofat Experience, Nothing Less is as eclectic as the musical mastermind himself. In addition to spitting fierce lyrical verbiage and producing a bulk of the project, Dofat continues adding to his accolades of abilities by singing a tune here and there on the album.
"My style and my music will resonate with people because I actually have something to say. It’s like how music used to be; it’s just refreshing. And I know what makes for an excellent song and record.”
And indeed he does. Working under the tutelage of Diddy at Bad Boy since its inception, Dofat was a member of the crucial production unit, The Hit Men. In addition to creating a plethora of chart toppers for the Bad Boy roster, Dofat went on to tackle the big screen in 2001 with the release of Street Dreams: From the Streets to the Executive Suite. Produced under the banner of his Chinavision Films and distributed through a deal with UrbanWorks Entertainment, the award-nominated ..ary explored the world of rap music and the evolution of hip-hop culture as few had seen before.
Building on his Hollywood endeavors, Dofat also contributed to theBad Boys 2 soundtrack in 2003. And after years behind-the-scenes in the lab, this visionary connected his persona to his respected reputation when he appeared on MTV’s Making the Band 2, where he was the primary entity assigned by Diddy to work directly with the hip-hop ensemble. Associate executive producing Da Band’s album, which debuted at 1 on the Billboard charts, Dofat completed the project in less than eight weeks and produced 90 percent of the LP’s tracks including the two lead singles “Badboy This, Badboy That” and “Tonight”.

Now in 2007, the man with unmatched experience in the volatile world of entertainment stands armed with his own masterpiece ready to take music back to its essence. Calling on some of his longtime associates in the biz, Dofat’s album is co-executive produced by Bad Boy A&R Conrad Dimanche, with help from Derick “D Dot” Angeletti, and will feature artists Mario Winans, Cassie and Diddy himself among several others.
In addition to The Dofat Experience, Nothing Less, the man with no limits continues seeking and developing talent via his Chinatown Music Group. Currently working with artists the Country Boyz from Little Rock and Mega Phenom from NY, Dofat maintains his reign of taking talent to immeasurable new heights. Both acts are signed to Chinatown, featured on Dofat’s debut and are currently working diligently on their own releases.
“I’m a hip-hop kid anyway you look at it,” says Dofat. “I grew up around and with it. I started DJing at the age of nine and actually started rhyming then too, but for fun of course! I always had a keyboard and I was lucky enough to get the chance to go after my goals and hone my craft. This album is just an extension of those goals from my days as a kid.”
After perfecting the art of musical creativity, Dofat pushes the envelope one step further. Perhaps he is in fact what NY and the industry in general need to save this thing called hip-hop. One thing’s for sure, the Dofat Experience is an event to witness. Get ready.
