Jens Kommnick

About Me

Jens Kommnick lives in Wremen, a small fishing village in North Germany, and has devoted a lot of time to being a musician, composer, arranger and producer over the last thirty years. His musical journey began at the tender age of 11 when he first started to play the guitar and was greatly influenced by the singer-songwriter and folk guitar scene. He played his first solo gigs when he was 15 in Germam folk clubs. It was around this time that he secured an engagement which lasted for four years in his home town theatre in Bremerhaven. At the age of 17 Jens first experienced music with Irish and Scottish musicians, and has been hooked on Celtic music ever since. Although most of the instruments Jens plays were self taught, he did study classical guitar and church organ in Cologne. During this period he became more and more enthralled by Irish Music but became also involved in the local jazz scene, and it was this combination of circumstances that helped him to develop the style that he plays today. Jens has been involved in many projects both on stage and in the recording studio not only in Germany, but throughout Europe. These include groups such as Iontach, Limerick Junction and Lá Lugh and with solo artists such as Liam O'Flynn, Gerry O'Connor, Brendan Power, Allan Taylor, Tom McConville, Helmut Debus, Siobhán Kennedy, Brian McNamara, Brendan McGlinchey, Mick O'Brien, Peter Kerlin and Frank Bode. Jens has been involved in almost fifty CD productions in Germany and Ireland, covering Traditional and Contemporary Irish Music, Singer-Songwriter Music and also Music for Children. In this field he is probably the most sought after studio musician in Germany. In addition, Jens also teaches guitar, bouzouki and whistle at various workshops throughout the country.Jens has just released his first solo album - "Siúnta".
