Influences: My Influences are many but a few who stick out are Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, William "Smokey" Robinson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Lionel Richie.
I love what LA and Babyface did with songs. Brian McKnight takes the simple and simply makes it special. The same could be said about Joe; and Chuckii Booker will never truly be appreciated but he is for real. My hometown has produced the Isley Brothers who should have been called "The consistents" because you knew what you were getting with them album in and out.
Brian Alexander Morgan who wrote early on for SWV I really liked his work and Bo Watson from Midnight Star, who I've had the pleasure of working with can write with the best of them.
Slow Jam, Love Should Have Brought You Home and Rock Steady are among his list of songs that are classics.
I am also a fan of Gerald Levert because he knew HIS music and delivered some classics.
And R. Kelly can string lyrics together that have you scracthing your head saying that was so plain why didn't I think of that? But that's his gift; the ability to tell a story that ALL can understand.
There are soooo many talented writers and producers that I like, that I'd be here forever talking about who I like and why. So that's just a sampling and I'll probably be back adding more names often. I look forward to the day my name is mentioned in the same context.
A lot of people may not have heard of Gary Taylor but if you don't have something of his and you're a songwriter you are cheating yourself. And the sisters from Floetry and the people who produce them...well done.
I really love muisc that has classic lyrics and production that's clean and easy to listen to.
That's what I'm looking for from you and from myself.
Today's artist like Dwele, Robin Thicke, Javier, Anthony Hamilton, Alicia Keys and others are bringing back that sound I'm talking about...and I love it!
