Jon Rutherford is a rugged yet tender Texan. Tall, with dark hair and blue eyes, his flashing smile, deep voice, and charismatic personality have made him a favorite with audiences everywhere whether as a singer, actor and model on film, television and in countless magazines and catalogs.
Through years of hard work, Jon has established himself as a versatile artist, who can sing, act and compose music. He has done a number of country music videos, working with Faith Hill, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Alison Krause, the Bellamy Brothers, Madonna, and Billy Gilman to name a few. Jon was cast as the young Max Slater on the Final Justice episode of Walker Texas Ranger, where he played the outraged remorseless killer of Walker’s parents.
Other projects found him co-starring opposite Bernadette Peters in an ABC Movie of the Week, Holiday In Your Heart and acting in nationally aired commercials for Chevy Trucks along side fellow Texan George Strait, three National commercials with Faith Hill for Alltel and another national spot for Wolf Brand Chili. “How long has it been since you’ve had a big, thick steaming bowl of Wolf Brand Chili? Jon also had roles in the IMAX feature film Twang and in The Duo and On Music Row, and most recently, a cameo appearance in Ashley Judd’s film Come Early Morning.Jon’s rich voice and sincere delivery of country favorites, along with his own compositions such as Taste For Texas, Just Another Day, and Fight For Freedom, have built a broad fan base in Texas and beyond. Other singing credits include Farm Aid V with Willie Nelson, the popular Cowboys clubs in Dallas, Arlington and Atlanta, the Gordon Elliot Show in New York and the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the Cattle Baron’s Ball.
Jon was named 1995 Entertainer of the Year on the popular Johnnie High Country Music Revue in Arlington, Texas. The Country Music Revue is currently being aired nationally twice weekly on RFD TV. In 2005 Jon released his first album of all original songs, Tonight’s On Me, on the AMG Country label in Austin. Jon’s dedication to “keeping it country†paid off for him when singles from the album began showing up on music charts as far away as Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands. Taste For Texas was in the top ten for four months on Swingin' West a weekly radio show in Fairfield, Connecticut. Swingin’ West host, Mike Gross, an award winning DJ devoted to Western swing music, said he will keep Taste For Texas in permanent rotation and he believes it will become a standard in that category.
Jon’s musical career began at an early age when his father helped him obtain his first guitar. He has been singing, playing and writing country music ever since. In 1989, he dedicated his life to country music. Jon sings a song to the audience from his heart, captivating all who hear him with his honesty and love of country music. Jon says, “On Stage, I’m havin’ a ball. There’s no place I’d rather be than entertaining a crowd. I’d rather sing than eat and I’m awful hungry.â€
With over 150 writing credits to his name, Jon’s abilities as a composer and his feel for a song have been noted in Nashville where he has been signed as a staff writer for Love the Music Publishing. He now composes for himself and for other artists as well. In 1996, a co-writing project brought Jon his first album cut. The song titled, Talk To Me, is one of the tracks on, Blue, LeAnn Rimes six times-platinum selling and Grammy winning album. In April of 2006, Jon received a hand-written letter from President George W. Bush saying how much he enjoyed Jon’s voice, his passion and his love for our country.
Jon is currently in pre-production of a music video of his song Fight For Freedom with a target release date of July 2008. This project consumes every waking hour of Jon’s life today. He believes strongly in the message of the song and wants to tell the world. His passion for this project and his love for this country and for those who serve to protect us are very strong.
Jon has always given 100 per cent to any project he was involved in. The multi-talented artist was a star athlete in high school and college, played football, basketball, and ran track, in addition to playing in the band. As a wide receiver on the Football team at the University of North Texas, Jon’s team won the Southland Conference Championship. Jon brings that competitive spirit of the field to the stage, making each performance an electrifying and special event. An injured knee ended Jon’s athletic career, but not college. He graduated with a Business Administration degree.
