About Me
Peter "Ram" Wiggins is a household name not only in Barbados but also throughout the Caribbean, New York and London. His career started in the mid-eighties as a DJ, playing at street jams and parties with his cousin Chihuahua Business Man (Lil Rick). He started writing lyrics which led to him testing his talents on the microphone. The rest, as they say, is history.
Known as Mr. Freestyle in Barbados, Peter Ram is no stranger to the stage. In 2001, his tune “Rats" placed him in the finals for the Barbados 2001 Party Monarch competition. Blessed with a keen sense of wit and a skill for lyricism he penned numerous tunes for several artistes including hits such as “Top Class Bubbla, Get Ready to Wine, Do As Ya Want, Confidence and Fireworks†for Soca Queen Alison Hinds.
For Crop Over 2003, Peter Ram released the huge hit “The Pledge" also affectionately known as “Blue, Yellow and Black†which won him the Best Nation Building song. He took this infectious tribute to the people of his homeland Barbados all the way to the Pic-O-De-Crop finals and to the Party Monarch Finals.
Ram, a guaranteed opening act for most reggae shows on the island has shared the stage with the likes of Jamaican dancehall heavyweights Beenie Man, Merciless and Elephant Man and most notably appeared at the Digicel launch in Barbados, alongside international reggae sensations Shaggy and Bounty Killer.
Ram expanded his career in 2005 when he turned to acting and appeared in his first feature film “Tek Dem Out" and for the past 3 years he has also been the face and voice behind Barbadian sports brand retail outlet, Total Sport.
In July 2006, he released "Woman by My Side" which has caused him to travel extensively across the Caribbean region to neighbouring territories such as Trinidad, Antigua, Tortola, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada and Carriacou.
This track was remixed for Trinidad Carnival 2007, featuring 2006 Power Soca Monarch King, Shurwayne Winchester of the band Traffik.
The resounding success of this track has commanded much attention in the international market, as it continues to receive excellent reviews on the
music charts and consistent airplay worldwide.
As a result of the success of the song, Peter Ram shot the music video to the single on location in Barbados by Roland “Remy†Yearwood of Trinidad and Tobago. To date, the video has been added to the programming of VH1 Soul’s “Island Soulâ€, video on demand channel “Music Choice TV†and peaked at the no. 3 position on MTV TEMPO’s “Cross Caribbean Countdownâ€.
More recently, Peter Ram was invited by TEMPO to render a special guest appearance performing “Woman by My Side†with Shurwayne Winchester at the Rock the Tempo show at the Lionel Roberts Stadium in St. Thomas, British Virgin Islands. Singing to a capacity crowd of over 10,000 Peter Ram appeared alongside other headline acts such as international recording artistes Shaggy, Maxi Priest and Tessane Chin.
Crop Over 2007 was another great year for this artiste, who continues to be consistent in earning a position in the Party Monarch Finals and performed at all the major Crop Over events.
Peter Ram is now ranking in the top international soca arena, as "Woman by My Side" remix featuring Trinidad’s Shurwayne Winchester, was recently judged ‘Best Soca Collaboration’ at the prestigious 5th Annual International Soca Awards, in Queens, New York.
Peter Ram released three new tracks for Crop Over 2007; “Pumpinâ€, “Smoke Signal†and “Snakesâ€, all of which continue to receive steady rotation on the local and international airwaves.
The track “Pumpin†is on the Nirvana Riddim and is the collaborative effort of producer Darron Grant of Underground Studios and Cory Jordan (keyboardist for the band Krosfyah) and was recently remixed featuring Jamaican artiste Idonia.
At the end of 2007, the music video for “Pumpin†was shot on location in Barbados, by Jamaican Director Jay Will of Jay Will Films. Released through the Pyramid Music Group, it recently went to number 1 on the Synergy TV Video Countdown (T&T) and is currently receiving heavy rotation on MTV Tempo where it entered the top ten of the “Cross Caribbean Countdownâ€.
Peter’s prescence was felt in Trinidad for Carnival 2008, when he performed on
the Pyramid/Tribe Music Truck (the only performance truck for T&T Carnival 2008), alongside the 2008 International Power Soca Monarch Bunji Garlin and the 2008 T&T Road March Queen Faye-Ann Lyons Alvarez and Pyramid mates, Mr. Dale and Biggie Irie, Umi Marcano and other regional performers.
