TONY AUTORE AUDIO & MUSIC PRODUCTIONS

About Me

Tony Autore graduated from the University of Sound Arts in Hollywood, California in 1978. While attending audio school Tony worked as a sound engineer for The Los Angeles International Film Exposition. At the recommendation of one of his instructors he began working at the Beach Boys recording studio--Brother Studio in Santa Monica, California--as an understudy. He began his career under the close supervision and guidance of established engineer and producer Joel W. Moss. Tony was once again asked to work for the Los Angeles International Film Exposition, this time as the sound consultant for the tribute to King Vidor’s “Show People”, a silent film with live musical accompaniment. The experience assisting and engineering recording sessions got him a position at Motown Record Corporation Los Angeles, CA. Here, Tony spent countless opportune hours working with many highly acclaimed musicians, producers, and engineers in the business. Talented names like Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Rick James, Billy Preston, Jamaine Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Commodores, The Temptations and Teena Marie to name a few.
While at Motown, Tony met the late great producer/arranger Don Costa. Tony eventually became Chief Engineer for Don Costa’s production studio, DCP Productions. After Costa’s passing, Tony decided to go freelance. This brought him back to working with Joel W. Moss. Tony worked with Joel on movie soundtracks including “Lookin’ To Get Out” and “Staying Alive”. Tony Spent the next few years working on recording projects between Los Angles, his native Rhode Island, and Virginia Beach, Va.
All these years of credentials and experiences led him to Asia, when he was asked to work with Singapore’s top Jazz record label/Jingle company. Tony got to work with some of Asia’s top musicians as well as work on some great International and cultural music. He also worked with some of America’s great jazz musicians such as Lee Ritenour, Ernie Watts, Paulinho De Costa, Anthony Jackson, Charlie Hayden, Al Foster, Bob Wilson to name a few. All of Tony’s jingle work was done through major international ad agencies such as Saatchi and Saatchi and Ma Cann Erickson. Jingle clients ranged from Burger King, Toyota, Shell Oil, Fuji Video Tape, Lipton Tea, and the Australian Navy. Tony was also chosen to work on a production of the new Singapore national song entitled “One People, One Nation”, which was produced for the Singapore 25th anniversary of independence. Immediately after that, he worked as the audio consultant for the Singapore Arts festival Jazz Concert that put shows on in Bangkok, Thailand as well. Tony also contributed his work to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Having worked in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia, Tony received a call from BMG Records Malaysia and was asked to work with some of their well-known artists.
In between recording and supervising stage productions, Tony was a frequent guest lecturer for the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in Singapore, and The Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC).
In 1992, Tony returned to the United States to do what he thought was best for his one-year-old daughter by returning to his native Rhode Island. Tony continued to stay as technical as the location would allow. He got more involved in computers, which led him to work as a consultant for a local web development company. Tony worked with local businesses planning their presence on the Internet. This led him to work with a national computer training school that specialized in training employees of various businesses. By the late 90’s Tony saw the need to get more formal training on computers. He attended New England Institute of Technology where he received an Associate Degree in Multimedia Technology. This is where he started to get more familiar with Digidesign’s Pro Tools. When Tony graduated he took a job at a music software company, BitHeadz, Inc., that specialized in developing a digital software sampler. Tony worked in the tech support department, later moving to the marketing department doing the artwork for magazine reviews, ads and software boxes. He soon felt the need to get back behind the control room desk. These days, Tony has begun working in his own home project studio. He recently completed work with a Gypsy String Quartet-The Bohemian Quartet-working on their album and promotional DVD. He has also started meeting engineers, producers, studio owners, and artists in the Boston area, and continues to make this his location of choice for recording and producing of various projects. All the years of experience in many locations and in a variety of music genres from Pop and Rock, R&B, Jazz, and Classical allows Tony to continue showing a diverse character in the art of recording and production.
