Famous Babies

About Me

It was the 80s ... we had skinny ties and wrap-around shades. Several musicians from various little-known bands in the DC area decided to unite and make the music of Famous Babies. Jim and Todd, fresh from a stint with local surf faves The Insect Surfers, reunited with old friends Big Al Enderson and Michelle Rios. Together they blurred the lines of traditional rock and wave, delving into songs and arrangements that ranged from jazz to country to ska.Years before, Jim and Al had jettisoned the idea of lead guitarists and relied heavily on saxophone and keyboards to fill the lead duties. Michelle's powerful vocals rounded out the sound, and the band was well-received wherever they played ... especially by other musicians, who seemed to "get" what the Babies were going for! Eventually the band moved in separate directions but their body of work speaks for itself. Enjoy!

At various times, joined by:

Influences: Todd and Jim were riding the first wave of XTC adoration ... need we say more? Jim, also an avid Frank Zappa fan, tried to push the limits on concept and arranging. Al was heavily influenced by DEVO and the Talking Heads, which he combined with a lifetime of classical training, and Michelle bought with her a knowledge of classical and operatic vocal styles.
