Ok, so a little bit about me...I'm just your average 30-something year old guy who really enjoys music and can't seem to let go of his guitar...
It all started in 1991 when I got my first "official" electric guitar...I met a buddy in high school named Brandon Beauchamp (who is a really talented vocalist/musician) and he and I started foolin' around with stuff...I had a Realistic Radio Shack 4 channel powered mixer, some shitty digital effects machine purchased at a pawn shop, 2 really cheesy casio keyboards, an Alesis SR-16 drum machine (my first BIG purchase), and of course my guitar...All of these things were plugged into my mixer, which were then plugged into a mic input of some dual cassette tape deck I had and there you have it...
Our first recordings were keyboard/guitar oriented stuff somewhat in the vein of Depeche Mode meets ???? It was kinda cheesy/kinda cool...I wish I still had some of those old tapes...We had a couple of names floating around at that time: Cathodic Countenance, Braindead Valentine, goofy stuff like that...But we had a blast writing it...We even had a "DJ" at one time called DJ Generator, which lasted about 2 days...
After high school in 1992, Brandon and I decided to keep on writing music but started leaning towards a more pop-punk sound after hearing Green Day on a local college radio station...So, my long time buddy Bill Holcomb had come home from college in the winter of 1992 and we convinced him to pick up a bass and play with us...So, we had a guitarist, bass player, and vocalist...Now all we needed was a drummer...We found one in 1993 (whose name I won't mention) and he lasted about a year and half...We eventually moved on to our final line up with Adrian Zeigler being our drummer and Max Gross coming in with some awesome guitar work...So there you have it...Lint had one 6 song EP/Demo, a 12 song full length entitled Progeny, and a follow up 4 song EP which I call The Cedar Valley EP...Unfortunately Lint broke up in 1997 due to some of the members wanting to move on to different things...
After Lint, Ben, Bill and Brandon kept playing together and after several trips to SXSW (a little music festival held in Austin every March), we stumbled upon something called "emo" music...We had no clue what it was and after a Deep Elm showcase with Pop Unknown and The Appleseed Cast, we were hooked...So, in 1998 Ben, Bill, and Brandon decided to make another band...This band would be called Commonplace...
Ben played guitar, Bill on bass and Brandon played drums and sang (I told you he was a talented dude). It was just the 3 of us for about a year until we finally got another guitarist Courtney Key...Turned out she was like my 3rd cousin twice removed or something like that...Brandon got tired of singing and playing drums so after a couple of tryouts we got our final drummer Cameron Hall...He came along in about late 2001/early 2002...We played countless shows in/around Texas and the bordering states...We toured the U.S. twice...We had one 2 song demo, a 9 song full length entitled Nothing so Unnatural, and our final 8 song full length called A Rise in Preventable Mishaps...
Commonplace broke up in mid 2003 after Cameron decided to move on...And that folks, was the last of it...We all pretty much went our seperate ways...There was an attempt to keep on with something else but it just didn't pan out...
So now, here I am, with my wife Kelli (whom I've known through pretty much all of this) and my 5 year old son Seth living in Benbrook, TX... My taste in music still ranges somewhat but I really enjoy writing emoish/melodic/indie type stuff...To be honest, I would love vocals with this music but I CANNOT sing and will not attempt it...I don't mind the instrumental stuff...It's calming...One of these days I'll find someone who is interested in putting vocals with my music and see what happens...Who knows
Welp, there you have it...My musical "career" in a nutshell...I don't know why I've called this project Robot Park...I guess because I just really enjoyed going to that park as a kid (it's a local park here in Benbrook at our baseball fields)...It's nothing really official, just a name to put online...
Hope you enjoy!!!
I will add songs as I record/finalize them...I've got alot of thoughts in my head
Any interest in my older bands check out:
