I am here for Friends

About Me

I'm an Episcopalian!BULLETIN: MY HUSBAND BOB HAD A STROKE ON SUNDAY, NOV. 18TH, 2007. PLEASE KEEP HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS. THANK YOU! HE IS GETTING THERAPY AND IT WILL BE A LONG SLOW ROAD BACK. HIS SPEECH IS AFFECTED A LITTLE AND HE CANNOT MOVE HIS LEFT ARM AND LEFT LEG. HE IS WORKING VERY HARD WITH THE SPEECH, PHYSICAL, & OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS AND WITH GOD'S HELP I KNOW HE WILL IMPROVE A LOT! UPDATE: BOB CAME HOME FROM THE REHABILITATION FACILITY ON MARCH 7TH, 2008. MY SISTER, GLADYS, MOVED HERE TO RHODE ISLAND, FROM FLORIDA, IN MAY 2008, TO HELP OUT. THANK GOD I HAVE HER. SHE IS LIVING WITH US AND HELPING OUT SO MUCH. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT HER. I WOULD HAVE TO QUIT MY JOB AND HAVE NO MONEY AND NO INSURANCE, IF SHE WASN'T HERE! IT IS A LEARING EXPERIENCE FOR US ALL AND A ROLLERCOASTER RIDE AT BEST. BUT I KNOW BOB IS HAPPY TO BE HOME AFTER ALMOST 4 MONTHS IN HOSPITALS AND REHABILITATION FACILITIES. PLEASE KEEP THOSE PRAYERS COMING AS THEY ARE REALLY NEEDED AND APPRECIATED! GOD BLESS. BOB DOES NOT WANT TO BE RETIRED. HE WANTS TO GO BACK TO WORK. I AM NOT SURE IF THAT WILL HAPPEN, BUT I SURE HOPE IT DOES AS THAT IS WHAT HE WANTS. I AM EXHAUSTED AND HOPE TO GET A DAY OFF SOMEDAY! YOU CAN'T IMAGINE MY SCHEDULE! I CONTINUE TO WORK FULL-TIME. THANKS TO THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HELPED US. IT IS APPRECIATED! WE STILL HAVE A LONG LONG ROAD AHEAD OF US. OUR LIFE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOW. I HOPE THAT SOMEDAY WE CAN HAVE A LITTLE FUN BACK IN OUR LIVES. TAKE CARE, LINDA----------------------------------------I'm a very big fan of Wayne Newton and I am very active in the Wayne Newton International Friends Club, Inc. (www.wnifc.com) (Member #110, charter member of this Friends Club since 1988.) I am very proud to be a "Wayniac", which is what we are called. I have been a fan since the 1960s. I am the WNIFC Area Coordinator for NY, NJ, MA, RI, CT, ME, NH & VT. And I am the WNIFC Web Site Correspondent. I answer emails from our website. I have seen Wayne's live show over 100 times in Branson, MO, in Las Vegas, NV and many venues "on the road". I have met him, talked to him, and kissed him many times. HA! (I have been to his horse ranch (Logandale) and to his house/ranch in Las Vegas (Casa de Shenandoah). I have attended many (probably about 15) of our Friends Club annual conventions called "Wayniac Weeks" in Las Vegas and in Branson, MO. Wayne Newton is such a great person, gentleman, entertainer, and a Patriot. He has class and charisma. Wayne gives 110% on stage. There is nobody like him any where. He loves what he does and you cannot help but love him. Wayne can play 13 instruments and he has a great sense of humor. He is the ultimate showman. In his shows he has a lot of interaction with the audience and it is sooooo much fun! He loves this country and as Chairman of the USO Celebrity Circle, he entertains our troops and honors them. Bob Hope personally selected Wayne to take his place in that role. Wayne was the first entertainer to go into Iraq and Afghanistan. He has entertained our troops in every war and conflict since and including Vietnam. When he gets home from his USO Tours, he sometimes calls the families of some of the military people he has met, to tell the family how they are doing. He always honors the military in his stage shows. If you have ever met Wayne, like I have, you will never forget it. He is such a gracious, genuine, kind and honest man. He immediately makes you feel so at ease and comfortable and special. He always wants to hug you, not just shake your hand. You leave feeling like you have known him your whole life and that he really cares about you. And the thing is, he DOES care. He is indeed a very special person! I was so proud to be voted, "Wayniac of the Year" in 2003 by the members of WNIFC. What an honor! No other entertainer can match "Mr. Las Vegas". He is the "Best of the Best". He has been awarded so many awards and honors that I could not even begin to list them here. Moving along now, I am a life long Episcopalian (Baptised, Confirmed and married in the Episcopal Church.) I, of course, believe in God and I do pray. I was probably concieved on Easter Sunday and I was born on a Sunday too. I am a very strong Republican and very Conservative. I am strongly pro-LIFE. "Some babies die by chance, no baby should die by choice!" I am rooting for John McCain for President. I wanted Condoleeza Rice for President soooooo bad, but she chose not to run. I think she is a remarkable and intelligent woman. I could live with almost anyone for President except Hillary and Obama! Hillary is my worse nightmare!!!!!!! I do support President Bush. My favorite President was Gerald Ford. My ancestry is mostly English with a little Scotch and a little Northern Irish. I love Christmas and I hate Halloween. Everyone will tell you that I am a very very detailed person. You probably have figured that out by now! HA! I have been a secretary my whole life. My boss calls me Radar after the character on MASH as I always know what he wants before he asks me! He is a great boss. I am very shy, always have been. I hate to talk on the phone but I love to email. I love to have clean fun, especially with my Sister, Gladys. She brings out the best in me. We are really so much alike and she is my best friend. We get along great and laugh and laugh. Other than my Sister, I had a Brother, Arthur Wesley (Wes) and sadly he passed away a couple of years ago (Parkinson’s disease). He worked for the U.S. Post Office most of his life and he was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam Veteran. Both of my parents passed away over 20 years ago. My husband has lost both of his parents as well. He is an only child. So we have a very small family! I have a great husband, Bob (married since 1967). He is of mostly English and Finnish decent. He has been in the hotel and restaurant business his whole life. He has served his business and his community very well (Past Chairman of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce and Past Chairman of the Rhode Island Hospitality & Tourism Association to name just 2 of MANY! And he was awarded a Most Valuable Volunteer award one year, awarded in person by former President George H.W. Bush.) He co-wrote a college text book on management that was published in English and CHINESE! He was also awarded the Top Executive Administrative Manager of the Year (from over 800 companies) by the American Resort Development Assoc. At one point, a few years ago, he was traveling to St. Thomas, USVI, for 1 to 2 weeks every month to manage 3 resorts there as part of his area. And 10 years before that, he used to fly to Martha's Vineyard Island, just about ever weekend on the company plane to manage 3 hotels there as part of his area. Bob retired from his position of Area Manager for resorts (Wyndham, at that time) in February 2007 but he is not ready to stay retired! He is too young, and too smart and has a lot left to give! He is looking for new challenges and new opportunities and it could even be outside the hospitality industry. Bob is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of UMASS Amherst (graduated number 1 in his class). His first job, right out of college, was being part of the opening cast of the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World in Florida (1971). He was Assistant Restaurant Manager at the main dining room at the Polynesian Resort which was very fancy at that time. It had 3 seatings a night with French Service and a Hawaiian floor show at each seating. A lot of celebrities came to the restaurant. I, myself, saw Buddy Hackett, Julie Andrews and Rock Hudson there. We have attended 2 reunions of the opening cast of the Polynesian Resort. Bob is also a U.S. Air Force Veteran (Air Commandos). In the Air Force he had 2 main jobs, one was working in Accounting & Finance and one was a General's aide. He still keeps in contact with that General and talks highly of him often (Retired Brig. General Robert L. Cardenas. Type in General Cardenas' name in Google and see what you get! Impressive!) Bob is a Life Member of the Air Commandos Association and a Life Member of the American Legion. He is very interested in airplanes and military and war history. He is always watching the Military Channel on TV! He is also interested in stocks and investments. He is a good drummer too. Paid his way through college playing in bands and made a record. Bob also loves to cook and is very good at it. Which is great as I hate to cook! Update on Bob-July 2007: He just started working for the same company that I work for in July 2007!!! He is the State Project Manager. Married almost 40 years and now we are working together! HA! It is going well and Bob is happy as he is learning new things and meeting new people. He loves to meet and talk to people. He says he never wants to retire!! He loves to work! Nuts! Bob has always been a hard worker. In fact this is the first time in his life that he has not had to work at least a 6-day week. We have one FANTASTIC son, Brian James, who is also in the hotel and restaurant business. I am soooooo proud of my Son. He is the light of my life and my reason for being!!! He has always been a great son. Brian was a chemistry major at Boston University. He is a big fan of BU's men's ice hockey team and has season tickets every year. He also travels to the "Frozen Four" every year. He is a very hard working, smart, thoughtful and caring person. (And he has NO tattoos and NO piercings and normal hair! Ha! I really hate both tattoos and piercings in both male and females. Really! Other that one ear hole in female ears. Just my opinion people!!!!) Brian is single and available. HA! Brian is really a gentleman, has manners, and is very smart. He really is a sweet, kind, caring and nice person. He is a hard worker too! Works long hours. Everyone who meets him tell us what a nice young man he is. I could not be more proud of him! Right now Brian is Banquet & Conference Services Manager at Stowe Mountain Lodge in Stowe, VT. It is new and opened in June 2008 as a 4-diamond and hopes to be a 5-diamond when they get rated. It is beautiful and has every thing you would ever want! In early 2005, I lost over 60 pounds and I have kept about 40 of it off. I have to get going on that diet again! I was born and grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts. I have lived in MA (Quincy, Sunderland, Leominster), KY (Bowling Green), TN (Murphreesboro), FL (Ft. Walton Beach, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville), and now Rhode Island for almost 20 years. Our son was born in Orlando, FL when my husband was part of the opening staff/crew at Walt Disney World. My husband was born in Quincy, MA and later moved to Braintree, MA during junior high school. I can't wait to retire (I figure the estimated date of my retirement will be 12/31/2013.)!! YUK! I love to travel and I love to walk in my neighborhood. I am an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and the Boston Univ. Men's ice hockey team - the Terriers. I love the ocean!!! I am very Patriotic too. I wear a flag pin every single day! Love America or Leave it. And if you come to the USA to live, I will certainly welcome you, and be glad that you wanted to come here, but please LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH! I had a relative, James Veale, who died on the Titanic. I am well noted for writing a very long Christmas Letter that I send to over 250 people every year. I guess by looking at this you can tell that I can't write anything short! HA! (Be sure to click on "View My: Pics" under my photo in the upper left corner of this page. I have uploaded hundreds and hundreds of photos!!! I have separated them into various "albums" so you can click on the album(s) that you wish to see. Under the album cover it tells you what is in that album and how many photos are in that album. You can left click on each individual photo in the album as well, to see a larger version of it too, which is best. Members can even leave comments too. Enjoy and thanks!) This page is a "work in progress", so check back OFTEN as I will be updating my bio often and I always will be adding more photos! This is kind of my new hobby! I rearrange the photos sometimes too, so the newest ones are not always at the end, they could be mixed in!! And, if you are a MySpace member, please ask me to be one of your MySpace "Friends"! Remember, "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - chocolate in one hand - wine in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming - WOO HOO! What a Ride!" That's the way I want to leave this earth!!!!! Thank you and take care. My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'm happily married - since 1967!! So, I am not looking for someone new. I just want to meet and share photos, etc. with family and friends. I really wish that I had met my relative who died on the RMS Titanic though! I feel a strange connection to him. His name was James Veale and he was a second class passenger. He was a stone cutter. His photo is on my page here.Photo of my relative who died on the Titanic.RMS TITANIC INTERVIEW WITH CHARLES LIGHTOLLER
